I arrived in Melbourne! Hurrah!
I also managed to safely arrive at my hotel after making it through customs (I got pulled over - no surprise there then!) the only downfall was that my room was a smoking room (!?) which I didn't realise you could even get anymore!
I tried to put up with it but it lasted all of 3 minutes before I went downstairs and asked if there were any non-smoking rooms that I could be moved to. The woman at the reception had a look and then told me that I could be upgraded to a suite for $14 extra. Need I say more?
…
Comfortably set up in my new suite I set off to explore Melbourne - first impressions are I love it! It's so vibrant and has a real European feel to it. I ended up in a new shopping complex called Melbourne Central where I decided to go to the cinema in order to stay awake as I was completely knackered!
The only thing that was on was Footloose and I think the less said about that the better to be totally frank.
I got back to the hotel late and after making some calls home fell asleep ready for the day ahead…
So, I woke up this morning totally prepared for the day ahead exploring Melbourne and after a bit of a hiccup trying to stow my luggage in one of the hotel lockers which was above my head (apparently the only one left) I set off on my travels.
They took me all around the main CBD streets and I eventually ended up in the State Library of Victoria where I went to the 'Mirror of the World' exhibition which is all about the history of the book and showcases the library's collection of rare books and manuscripts - sounds boring but it was totally fascinating!
After that it was time to meet Xenia (yay Xenia-Pooh!) we met up at the hotel and went for dinner somewhere near her place and spent some time catching up.
It's great to see her and I can't wait to drive the Great Ocean Road next week! Bring it on!
