After a wonderful night's sleep, we said goodbye to Pam and Rob and, after arranging to meet them at their town house in Mornington on the way back from the road trip (we were staying there for two nights at the end of the week) we set off to pick up the hire car!
What a nice one it was too - a brand new Ford Focus Automatic. From there we set out on the journey to Ballarat, the famous Gold Rush Town and our first stop on the journey to the Great Ocean Road.
Once we arrived we checked into the motel then called Xenia's friend Kirsty who we had also arranged to meet up to talk to her about what to do that evening - I already had an idea that I wanted to visit Sovereign Hill but wanted to check it out a bit more after having spoken to Kirsty about it, so Xenia and I took a little trip up there (we were literally 5 minutes from it) to see what was going on.
Turns out that they run a night light and sound show which lasts for 1.5 hours which I was VERY interested in, so I made the decision to go to see that on my own whilst Xenia caught up with her friends and I have to say it was brilliant! The site is actually a working museum so it's set up as a Gold Mining town, just as it would have been in the 1850's and together with some clever pyrotechnics and lots of clever lighting and sound the whole evening and the story of the Eureka Stockade was told - I thoroughly enjoyed it!
The only downfall was that I wasn't allowed to take photographs whilst the show was going on, which means that if I want to take any I will have to go back again tomorrow and pay the entrance fee to go in L ...
…maybe I will try my charms and see if I can just pop in and out to take some…
