Ok so today I did indeed decide to get up early and to the Rainforest walk, but Xenia was still feeling a bit ill from the winding roads yesterday so I left her to sleep in whilst I drove back to Maits Rest and enjoyed the walk through the rainforest over boardwalks and viewing platforms.
It did feel a bit weird though, being in the rainforest on my own at 8am, so hurried along a little bit before heading back to the motel to grab Xenia for breakfast.
From there we travelled east to Lorne and it was here that we went to Erskine Falls; we drove the few km to get there and then walked to the first viewing platform - stunning!
I was in full Waterfall Chaser mode and wanted to get closer to it, so left Xenia at the first viewing platform and then tackled the 314 steep steps (and I mean steep) down and tried not to think about the getting back up again…
The one thing I could think about as I climbed back up the steps was 'it was worth it, it was worth it…' I was ruined - totally ruined but it was worth it.
From there the next stop was Teddy's Lookout a spot with a fabulous view over the Great Ocean Road, as we were leaving there was another couple there and I offered to take a photo of them, it was at this point that the guy said something to me about the car park, and it wasn't until we were walking back that I said to Xenia, "I'm sure he said there was a snake in the car park"…
The walk back to the car park was certainly interesting but thankfully, we did not encounter a snake! Phew….
I can't tell you how tired I am feeling at the moment, we have crammed so much in to the last few weeks that it's definitely starting to take its toll. Yet, the journey continues, we left Lorne and on to Torquay, travelling through Fairhaven where the statue of the men building the Great Ocean Road is - we missed it the first time and ended up driving back through Fairhaven to see it realised that we had basically stood right next to it the first time round! (It's been a long trip!)
Arriving in Torquay we checked into the motel and went to find some food - a very lovely Chinese meal and then headed back to the motel, noting a small place on the Esplanade to go for breakfast at the tomorrow morning.
