Ok, so the plan for today was:
1. Go back to Sovereign Hill, buy souvenirs and possibly try and get in to take photos
2. Meet Kirsty for breakfast
3. Drive to Port Fairy to start the drive on the Great Ocean Road.
I'm pleased to say, we did it all! Here's how:
We got up first thing and went straight back up to Sovereign Hill, I had been undecided all evening about whether I wanted to get photos bad enough that I would pay the entrance fee ($42) just to go in or whether I would just leave it, so I decided to go and just buy the souvenirs and work out how I felt when I got there.
Kirsty met us whilst we were up there and after talking about it a bit, she came up with the same conclusion as me - just go and tell them I was at the show last night and only want to talk a couple of photos as we weren't allowed last night.
Completely true but also a bit of a long shot.
I walked up to the counter and explained everything to the woman, telling her we were leaving the area in an hour and I didn't have time to enjoy the experience properly but would really love it if I could run in and take some photos as a reminder to go along with the show last night and whaddya know….she gave me a 10 minute pass! Success.
(WAHOOO!)
So there you have it - 'don't ask, don't get'! I had to leave all my belongings with her and be out before the 10 minutes but that was fine by me as I just wanted to run up the main street and take a few photos!
After taking photos and thanking her again I met Xenia and Kirsty, happy as a little larry and we all went off for breakfast. It was half way through breakfast that it finally came to me, who Kirsty reminds me off - Drew Barrymore. I had thought it straight away from the minute I met her yesterday but just couldn't put my finger on it, but my God, she is the SPITTING IMAGE! They laughed and Kirsty said that she gets that all the time but I'm not surprised, it's uncanny!
We said farewell shortly after and set out driving the few hours to Port Fairy where I was thoroughly amused by the roadsigns especially the ones advising of 'Powernap Areas' coming up…
Port Fairy it seems, is really rather small and there isn't a great amount to do there, it's just a pretty little fishing village. So, after checking in at our motel (my God, the flies - Flies everywhere!) we ventured out to find food, coming across a lovely little Fish & Chip place.
That'll do nicely thank you. Bedtime.
