Today we travelled from Port Fairy to Apollo Bay and all I can say is breathtaking, there is just so much to look, and so many amazing natural creations it's just stunning.
One of the first places we came across was in the Bay of Islands and it was the rock formation known as the London Bridge, although nowadays its simply known as the London Arch due to the fact that the 'bridge' part of it eroded away in the early 90's, unfortunately two tourists happened to be on the 'arch' part of it at the time and had to be rescued as they couldn't get back to the mainland.
Can you imagine being sat on the edge of a cliff when suddenly the bit between you and the rest of the world just drops into the ocean? Not to mention if they had started to travel back a few minutes earlier…
Next stop was the Twelve Apostles, one of the main tourist attractions on the Great Ocean Road and I can completely understand it. It's strange, really it's just a bunch of rock that has eroded away but it's just so peaceful to be there, it's just beautiful and you try and commit the image to memory but sometimes you just think you will never be able to do it justice, photos certainly don't.
We stayed at the Twelve Apostles for quite a while, just looking and walking around watching the water etc before we had to drag ourselves away and continue on to Apollo Bay. I knew I wanted to stop at Cape Otway too and visit the lighthouse there, so we were wary of the time. As we drove to the lighthouse, I saw a sign for a rainforest walk called Maits Rest, no time to do it now I thought about the possibility of maybe doing it in the morning, I don't know, I'll see how I feel tomorrow!
So, on to the Lighthouse, well all I can say is that that is a long and winding road but when you get to it, it's just a very short walk to the lighthouse and it is just stunning - it's Australia's Southern most Lighthouse - the views are breathtaking, it's just water as far as the eye can see. Unfortunately, the winding roads and the heat had taken their toll on Xenia so she stayed in the car whilst I headed out to the checkout the views!
Back to the car and I was glad to see that Xenia was feeling better so I jumped into the driver's seat and off we went, it was only on the way back that we noticed a couple who had pulled in on the side and were looking into the Gum trees - KOALA'S!!!
Yay! We saw Koala's in the wild and they were so cute I managed to get a couple of really good photo's before my camera decided to die on me - it's been a big day for photography!
It only took us 20 minutes to get to Apollo Bay and both exhausted we found a place to eat - amazing prawns! - then went back to the motel and settled in for the night in front of the TV.
Tomorrow we are off to Lorne and I might even go back to do the rainforest walk early…
