It's been quite a busy couple of days so it has! Yesterday I went to Parliament House, The Treasury Building and to ACMI (Australian Centre for the Moving Image).
The tours of the Parliament House and the Treasury buildings were quite nice - not earth shattering mind, but then again unless that's your thing it's not going to be - it's a parliament building and a treasury - come on!
Now ACMI on the other hand, was interesting it's a big exhibition building with all things moving image in them, exhibitions on movies, TV, video, film, gaming it's all there.
The main event on was an exhibition called Star Voyager which was all about Space and how it has influenced different types of media, so things like Star Trek, The Moon Landings everything like that was in there! On the way out I took the time to stop by the gaming section and they had a sort of 'history of' exhibition where they had first computer games etc dating up to today's games that you could go and sit and play on.
They had Lemmings on the PC - I LOVED that game, I think I sat there for nearly 45 mins just playing on Lemmings. Good times.
Today was a little different; today I went to the Melbourne Museum and the Gaol as well as taking a ferry cruise up the Yarra and a cinema trip (Xenia was working late) I made a bit of a faux pas to start the day off, I arrived at the museum, took a lot of lovely photos of this grand old building, walked up to the doors and tried to get in. Locked. Hmm… I looked through windows and saw people setting up tables in a big hall. Confused, I look around and saw a stand of leaflets for the Royal Exhibition Hall, then, remembering that the two buildings were close to each other, I turn around and saw a brand spanking new, very modern looking steel building with Melbourne Museum slapped right across the front in big letters.
Right, ok...I hope nobody saw that…
After the museum I walked back through the Carlton Gardens which was very nice and then headed straight off to the Melbourne Gaol where I got treated like a prisoner and locked in a cell in the batch house for 5 minutes with 4 other strangers. How pleasant.
Once we were allowed out we were told all about Ned Kelly and we got shown where he was hanged in the gaol!
Escaped from prison, I headed down the one of the main streets and down to Southbank hoping to get a cruise over to Williamstown, by then it was already 4pm and the ferries had stopped for the day but there was still a cruise up the Yarra that I could do so thought, 'why not!'
It was a bit boring really, plus the Yarra is DIIRRTTYY but, I did get some good photos from it, so it's not all that bad!
Next on the list, I went to the cinema; Xenia had to work late, so I just arranged to meet her later on that night at home.
Another knackering day and tomorrow won't be any easier - I had booked a tour of Phillip Island to do the Penguin Parade tour which was meant to leave at 3.30pm but the tour operator called me once I got to the museum in the morning and said that the driver was sick and that they would like to bump me up to the full day tour at no extra cost but that it left at 11.30am…
