Just got back from Seoul - my 4th visit. This time the trip was mostly to see Jeon Seon-ju (Anna).. the Korean who arranged my placement at Jungchul. Myself and Garry also paid a pilgrimage to the site of the burned-down Sungnyemun Gate, on a snowy Sunday (see video). On Saturday, we visited seedy Itaewon, full of expats and US military. We wanted to sample the scene, unlike any other in Seoul, or Korea... and it wasn't particularly pleasant. It could have been anywhere .... far more multi-cultural than anywhere else in the city... lots of foreigners, gay bars and the infamous Sobangseo-gil (more commonly referred to as Hookers Hill). Gecko's Terrace wasn't bad... lively... Bon Jovi, but lots of smoke, which i detest now. We stayed over in one of the most expensive jjimjilbangs to date.
It was good to meet Anna and swap notes on teaching opportunities and what it's like to do her job. I offered to be her English agent... but seeing as I probably won't be back in the homeland for long... it's not realistic. But she is looking for more and more English Teachers - the demand outweighs supply right now.
Workwise, I had an average week which ended well - with a brilliantly executed quiz with my IC Basic class. I've got a few changes to my schedule starting from tomorrow.... should get a little busier... but nothing i can't cope with. The numbers of kids going there seems to be continually on the rise, and more and more new classes are being created.
So, i have missed out on the Earthquake that everyone seemed to feel over there in the UK. Nothing coming close to a ground tremble here, the Earth is still to move in other ways...!
Later.
