A more difficult week at work. I lost my cool and through an eraser down the corridor at one point, which 'hit' a girl. The kids have been more restless but there are changes coming next week. A couple of my older Zenith - TEOIC and TOEFL - classes are being merged into a larger, Intensive-Couse (Upper), class. Effectively we are combining 3 of the rudest students with 4 of the quietest, plus a few cherry-picked individuals from other classes - so it should be an interesting dynamic. I will teach them 3 days a week (Mon, Wed, Fri). There is also a similar Intensive Course class for some of the better students from the lower levels - called IC (Basic). They will also have lessons on Mon, Wed and Fri. So these days have become busier for me, while Tuesday and Thursday are easier. It works out better for me, I think, as I have slightly fewer classes to teach, but the workload will be no less great.
I believe this is my true vocation, however, and am enjoying it most of the time.
I opted not to go to the International this weekend (after last week's embarrasment). Instead, I had a quiet beer with Garry in 2 local bars - and practiced my Han-gul reading - it worked really well - I managed to order food and drink in Korean - even getting the pronunciation right. Explaining that I had paid, on one occasion, was more of a problem (see videos).
A planned visit to the Mountains was cancelled when Eun-jung came down with a cold. So, I am still hopeful of a visit in the near future, but I was disappointed on Saturday as it was a beautifully day with a perfect, clear-blue sky. Even if the winter ahead is harsh, I will have enjoyed some lovely weather in my first couple of months.
I have not returned to Hanbit church. They never rang or emailed as promised as I have gone very luke warm on the idea, anyway. I was always a big fan of Maslow's Hierarchy Of Needs. As any business student will know, we need water, food, shelter, work and a number of other things in place before we can reach enlightenment. OK, I understand how Buddhist Monks bypass all the material things and the need for a physical relationship with another human, and try and go straight to the latter. I have more earthly needs. Although, I have just starting enjoying Lotus Plant (see videos) - which is an anti-toxidant and is grown outside Buddhist temples - and helps meditation, should one wish to be so inclined.
