1 word summary of the day: beautiful valley
Well I woke up this morning to find that some sort of critter had chewed a hole in my socks that I had left outside the tent with my shoes - what's with all of the critter attacks on me! And why the socks; they're the worst smelling items! So I guess that I'll just do with two pairs of socks for the remainder of the hike (and keep them inside the tent with me!)
Today was a much more leisurely day than yesterday's 22 miles; and we followed water all the way so didn't have to worry about rationing or carrying tons which was nice. I hiked in the morning with Veda and Magnolia (and Fiona) which was nice to chat, and then Magnolia left us at lunch time to go on ahead since she was trying to do five extra miles than us in order to get into Creede and pick up a resupply package.
The afternoon was spent hiking up this gorgeous valley in La Garrida Wilderness, and arrived at camp just after 2pm. Surprisingly, no rain at all today, and I actually got some sunburn on my arms since it was so sunny! Usually it clouds over in the afternoon so I don't have to reapply sunscreen. Veda and I are camped at 11750 ft in elevation, pretty high, and tomorrow will probably climb San Luis Peak, which is a 14er that is only 1.3 miles and 1400 ft gain above the trail (assuming weather is good). Looking forward to it! We'll leave the packs at the saddle and just carry water etc to the top - will be nice to hike without a heavy pack.
