I went to the outdoor market again today. I got some amazing deals (for England where everything is mad expensive). One of the best things I discovered is traditional Indian recipes turned into sauces you can buy in a jar like pasta sauce. How amazing is THAT?! A jar of any kind is only £1 and it will last me about 3 meals. Just sauté some veggies and add rice and BAM!
I've been pretty good keeping my budget for food and have been successfully eating smaller meals more frequently. I should probably keep this practice up when I get home. Now I just need to work on not drinking 5+ cups of tea a day, haha.
Unfortunately, I haven't been to the gym yet because I've got a slight cold-type thing going on. The weather has just made that transition from kind of chilly to cold and I always have a hard time with that. While we're still talking about weather, it rained last night and everything was dry this morning! It really doesn't rain here... I hope I didn't just jinx myself!
I'm going to see Mixed Up North at the Curve (a new theater in Leicester) on Friday night. It looks really interesting and I got good seats for a cheap price on an almost sold out show! Thank you student discount. Basically, it's about racial tension in the UK between white and Indian youth. Here's the link if you're interested in more about it or want to see the trailer for it. The picture for this post is of the theater so you can see how epic it is.

I had my last class today and it's going to be interesting as well. There's a girl who studied at East Carolina for a year in it and the teacher is really interested in the differences between British advertising and American advertising. My first group presentation is actually about the American Dream as pushed by advertising from the 1970s on. EASY!
I'm really really happy with my major right now. It really suits me and my interests. I have so many skills for the fields of broadcast (tv and radio) as well as print (advertising, PR, and writing). My teacher today was also talking about how important it is to take courses in theory and analyzation. Not only do we have the skills that make us marketable but we can also THINK which makes this generation of media students must more equip for the workforce.
I really don't know where life will take me in the future but I do know that I'm not freaking out about it like some of my friends. The other day, a friend of mine was talking about how they hate their major and are afraid it won't mean anything. I don't feel like that at all. I know that this major makes me a product and I just have to market myself the right way. Especially in America, media and communications can easily be applied to every product and service from non-profit peace organizations to Hollywood productions. I'm happy I haven't limited myself to one theory base or skill.
Now I'm just waiting on confirmation about the radio show I want to do through DemonFM (DSU's radio station). My idea is a daytime talk segment called "Ask the American". Whenever people meet me they have two reactions: 1. they love my accent (ew) 2. they have tons of questions. DemonFM also has a local radio license so it will be broadcasted in the surrounding areas and online. People will send me questions, kind of like a "Dear Abby" type thing that I'll answer on air. After having a radio show at UMBC all of freshman year, I'm comfortable behind the mic and in the station. This could be hilarious and also help me in my personal research about British youth.
Alright, I'm going to make another post about my findings here in Leicester just to ensure smoother reading.
