The thing about England is that they don't eat nearly as much as Americans. We all know how I feel about food so I'm slowing shrinking my stomach and adapting to this strange concept of "healthy living". I bought grapes for £2 and, although I wanted to kill myself because that's about $4, they are by far the best grapes I've ever had. Even though everything here costs more, the produce is so so so good. I feel like if I start each blog entry with a topic about food, it will help me get over my new found lack of consumption.
Yesterday was my first real day out in England where I wasn't completely alone. Jonny, a student who goes to DMU and studied at UMBC all of last year, came to campus to run some errands and thankfully took me under his wing. I had my first experience with jacket potatoes (yum yum yum) which are basically loaded potatoes with tons of different things to put inside. On our journey to find a tea room, so I could be extra touristy, we went into the village where he lived and stopped by a gorgeous park. We ran into some cows and sheep, not literally of course, and one of those awesome old fashioned telephone booths where I was attacked by an earwig.
After some tea and dinner, we went to a local pub where I had my first real encounter with British humor. Needless to say, I like to think I fit in well enough. I was also educated on types of British accents which will help me figure out where people are from. You never know when that could be handy. I'm also getting pretty good at them so I can make a fool of myself more frequently.
