It's a bank holiday here today so Colin and Jana took the day off. We had a really fun day. Started out from their house in Upper Moutere, drove over the Takaka Hills into Golden Bay area. There we visited the Ngarua Caves. Very funny in our safety helmets..had coffee and then a guided tour which included scaling a ladder to get out at the end. When I can get the photos on you will see what I mean.
After this we drove to a salmon fishing lake where I caught a huge salmon with my second cast???!!!!...I thought I'd done something wrong cos my line started to wizz about the lake...then Colin shouted reel the thing in you've got one...it was funny. After that I had no more luck and Damian and Colin took about 45 minutes to catch tyheirs. we then had a drink whilst we waited for the chef to smoke and fillet one of our salmons for our lunch...how much fun was that!!
We drove on to the Te Waikotopupu Springs where the river literally springs up out of the ground in several places in a small lake. So much water comes out of the ground that the river simply gushes from the lake. Pretty impressive. We drove on to Rangihaieta to view Farewell spit in the distance.
On the way back through the valley we stopped at the ex hippy colony village of Takaka for a drink and having negotiated the 375 bends in the road over the hills we stopped at at Motueka for a small Thai supper.
