24.02.11 Murchison to Nelson
Today we travelled to Nelson so that Liz and Jim could meet with Viv and George and the boys and take them out for a meal this evening. They are marooned in Nelson, luckily at a friends house. They are in a really shocked state. We found out from our friends Colin and Jana that their son and family who live in Christchurch are ok, though Mark(their son) was at work in the centre and was cut and bruised. Their house has escaped structural damage , wife and child ok, but no water, electricity or toilet facilities at all. We're supposed to be taking the van back to Christchurch on 3rd March and fly out at 8pm on 4th March…we'll see in about 6 days.
On arrival in Nelson we were told that all the campsites near the town are reserved for the earthquake displaced population, so we're on a lovely site along the coast, a Kiwi site and holiday park . Our pitch has electrics, water etc and is overlooking the sea but in the shade of the trees. We have just watched the most perfect sun set.
