TODAY WE BECAME GRANDPARENTS TO A BEAUTIFUL BABY BOY - 9lb 2oz, baby Lewis. Congratulations Rachel and Graham and a great big well done to Rachel!!!
23.02.11 Pancake Rocks to Murchison
The sun was actually shining this morning so we left early and headed up the west coast towards Cape Foulwind and Westport, stopping at Charleston on the way. We alaso made a stop at Tauranga bay and walked the boadwalk coastal path to see the fur seal colony. It was pretty good because the seal pups were at the stage where they were still feeding from mum but were experimenting with their swimming abilities, and the sea is so wild it's quite a nail biting experience watching them!
Phone signal was again poor, one bar or no bars, but managed to find out that the baby had not arrived yet.
We headed East into the Buller Gorge around 1pm.. There was no phone signal at all now until Murchison, around 2 hours away, so guess when our first grandchild was born?? Yep, 1.56am British time, when we were in the middle of the gorge. Graham sent a photo of baby Lewis who was 9lb 2oz. Rachel is a woman to be admired…no stitches, delivered him all on her own. Congratulations Rach and of course Graham.
We stopped and camped at Murchison by the river and celebrated his birth. Liz and Jim cooked our supper and even picked flowers for our table. We opened the bottle of Beach House wine that we bought especially for this occasion at the vineyard in Te Awanga (near Napier). A very happy evening.
