On Sunday morning I was very much still fast asleep when Dad arrived from Heathrow airport. I think we were both pretty surprised about that, being the uber morning person that I am. For one of the rare times in my life I actually experienced being woken from a dream by an external noise, & found it most unpleasant. No wonder people who actually sleep until their alarms go off hate waiting up to an alarm! Still, aside from the groggy confusion I was VERY happy to see my Dad again :)
We pottered around the hotel in the morning, Dad getting unpacked, me getting packed up to leave the following day, both of us napping (Dad of course was jetlagged, don't know what my excuse was…). Then around lunchtime we walked back over to Paddington to pick up the phone charger I'd left there the day before. Along the way we ran into some sort of Olympics promotional celebration thing going on somewhere in the streets of Paddington & I got a photo with the two mascots (once Dad worked out how to work my camera that is :P). The staff at Paddington were lovely & all bid me a fond farewell; having been there all week (a very long time by backpacker standards) it practically felt like home!
Then we made over our way to Covent Garden where we had tickets to see Shrek the Musical in the afternoon. (Btw, Dad: that scene is My Fair Lady IS supposed to be set in Covent Garden, like you thought, although it was all actually shot on a set somewhere else). We had lunch out in the main square, enjoying the sunshine & then I got some ice-cream afterwards, which was subject to fatherly tax (fair enough too considering he paid for it :P).
Shrek the Musical was FANTASTIC!! Being a Sunday matinee performance, I strongly suspect we were the only people there who didn't have a child under the age of 12 in tow…but really, who needs a kid to justify going to see Shrek the Musical! Oh it was SO funny…my favourite character was Lord Farquaad; the guy who played him had to kneel though out the whole performance with little fabric legs attached to the front of his thighs to create the appearance of Farquaad's short stature. Oh & there was this great bit where Donkey did a Barry White impression when he was trying to get Shrek to admit to Princess Fiona that he liked her...that was one of the those kinda embarrassing moments where I actually burst out laughing out loud & was one of the only ones in the theatre to do so. Seriously people, it's a donkey, in dark sunglasses, doing Barry White - awesome!! Haha If you're going to London any time soon, go see it on the West End! And if not, I guess we'll just have to cross our fingers & hope it makes it to Oz someday soon…
