On Wednesday I went out to Haywards Heath to see an old family friend of ours, Julia, who used to babysit me when I was younger (and whom my Mum used to babysit when Juls was little!). She moved over to London from Perth about 10 years ago, never intending to stay for more than a couple of years, but as the story so often goes she met a lovely Welshman (Gareth), married him, & has been living here ever since! She has just recently given birth to her first little boy, Seb, so I was very keen to meet the little man. More cuddles with cute babies! :)
Took the train out from Victoria station & was there in just under an hour. Seb didn't seem to think much of me a first because he fairly howled the entire car ride back to Julia & Gareth's place! They have a gorgeous house that's a little ways out of the town & feels like you're pretty much right out in the country. Seb calmed down the second Juls picked him up out of the car seat & stared at the strange lady (me) very intently. He had little tears running down his cheeks, so I guess he was truly distressed, probably because Julia had to wake him up from his nap to come & get me, so I am clearly a very, very mean lady :P
But once he'd been fed & we'd had a cuddle we back on better terms! Juls took me to a lovely little café nearby & we had a bite to eat while Seb chatted away making all sorts of gurgles, coos, & squeals, never wanting to be left out of the conversation. On the way back I decided to ride in the back seat with Seb as that seemed to be the only way to keep him quiet. He had once again screamed all the way to the café, but on the way back, with me next to him, he didn't make a peep! I think he just likes to have a friendly face to look at & to know he's not being left out :P
Gareth got home from work around 7pm & we all sat and had a glass of wine & some nibbles (well, Juls, Gareth, & I…Seb's a bit young to be hitting the booze just yet), chatting until I had to leave for the train station. Made my train with a few minutes to spare but unfortunately there were delays further along the line & we didn't actually leave the station for almost another hour, so by the time I got back into London & took the tube back to Paddington, it was almost 11pm. Lucky I always carry a good book with me ;)
