Today Kelly swore the Bikram class was longer & the room hotter…whilst the clock on the wall would suggest that it was not in fact any longer than the day before, I can't say for sure about the temperature! Haha After class we picked up our lunch from our local Pret (we totally have a daily routine, we are totally locals!) & then we made a mad dash back to Paddington to drop our gear off before heading to Hyde Park corner for a walking tour of the city. Even though Kel's been here for weeks now & I've been to London several times we'd both never done a walking tour & figured it was about time we learnt a little about the history of the city.
Our guide was a lively Irishman named James who believed himself to be far funnier than he actually was & had a thing for toilet humour & picking on other people (namely: us). Despite the fact that he himself was not actually that amusing we laughed & laughed the whole way through. A good portion of the time that Kelly & I spend together is spent in side-splitting, ab-crunching laughter over the strangest things that I'm not sure anyone else would find particularly funny. Needless to say we are very good at amusing ourselves & we were at the back of the group the whole way giggling like school girls :P
We went past Buckingham Palace & learnt about the most famous break-in in history where a homeless man jumped the fence, broke a window, drank a whole lot of booze, sat on the royal throne then got into bed with the Queen! Must have made for pretty interesting viewing on the CCTV footage I imagine…we also went past the residence of the princes where Will, Harry, & Charles reside & witnessed a mini changing of the guards ceremony. We also saw a guy get his ass handed to him when he set one foot across the rope in front of the gates where the guards were standing. One of the guards stepped forward with his bayonet out & screamed "GET BACK!". Kelly & both jumped out of our skins. He sounded like a death metal singer. Terrifying. Do not mess with the palace guards!
After 3 hours of fast paced walking on the back of a 90 minute Bikram yoga class our legs were aching & we made our way back to the Pride of Paddington in the evening for a pint. Oh, that was after the little mishap where Kelly left her very important diary behind at the back while trying to sort out payments to her landlord who is currently in South Korea & has not yet paid the rent for the property they are subletting this month…dramas, dramas, dramas! Still, nothing quite like a relaxing pint at the end of the day to soothe the nerves & the poor tired feet.
