On Friday morning Dad had to go to a few more meetings so I packed up my things & went off to sign up for a Bikram Yoga class in Soho. I'd never tried Bikram before but had heard people rave about it, & having quite a bit of time on my hands while in London I figured why not! I was also beginning to desperately crave some routine, proper exercise, & detoxification after all this time on the road. And I found a studio not far from where I'll be staying for most of my time in London that offers an introductory deal where you can attend an unlimited number of classes for 10 consecutive days for only 25 pounds. So off I went…
Oi! Wow. I knew it was going to be hard but WOW. 90 minutes in a 42 degree heated room was probably the longest 90 minutes of my life!!! You do 26 different postures, with a breathing exercise at the start & end of the class & it is bloody hard work! Feels really good afterwards, & because the room is heated you're able to really stretch out your muscles without pulling anything or doing any damage to your body. And you sweat bucket loads. Which leaves you looking incredibly attractive when you finish class absolutely drenched in your own sweat and, in my case, red as a tomato all over. I also have an unfortunate affliction which means that that redness doesn't go away for a good hour or so, so even after a cold shower, drinking lots of water, & getting changed, I was still walking through the streets of London looking like a beetroot! Pretty! :P
Went back to the Lancaster to meet Dad for lunch & then we went for a wander around London to sort out some stuff for the coming week. Dropped by my hostel to confirm my booking & went to the Hyatt to tell them I would be coming to stay next Saturday night (because Dad is coming back to London next weekend & the people he works for at Rio Tinto always book him into his hotel a night early if he's arriving on an early flight the next day so he can go straight there in the morning & check in right away…& I would not let a room at the Hyatt go to waste! :P). Then Dad took me to meet his friend Phil who lives & works over here & has 3 daughters around my age and one son. He gave me all his contact details along with a key to his apartment in case I get in trouble at all while I'm over here, as well giving me a book on London & brochures for walking tours. He even invited me to join him & his kids for dinner sometime during the week, so I am being seriously well looked after at the moment :)
Dad & I went back to the Lancaster in the afternoon to wait until Dad needed to leave for the airport, & fell asleep on the couches in the lobby. Good power nap :D Then Dad headed of to Heathrow & I made my way to Tottenham Hale to meet the lovely Kelly Venables once again! She had very kindly offered for me to come & stay with her boyfriend, Eddie, over the weekend in their lovely little apartment in the student housing accommodation out that way. Being a teeny tiny studio apartment I am basically sleeping in their hallway on a makeshift bed created from a flattened cardboard box & an assortment of bedding items. It was actually surprisingly comfortable for a cardboard box bed!
It was so nice to see her again & we were chatting a mile a minute for the rest of the evening while poor Eddie sat there completely overwhelmed by girl talk! :P We made homemade pizzas for dinner (& Pimms! Terribly appropriate drink to be drinking in London in the summertime) & settled in to watch Bridesmaids, but I was so exhausted I fell asleep after 15 minutes…
