Dear All ….
I can't believe it's all over. I was there when it opened - that only seems like yesterday. And I was there when it closed. Now it's Rio in four years. They'll have to go some to put on a better show than us won't they?
Weren't we brilliant? Team GB with that amazing haul of medals. And …… well, everyone else in the whole country. I could start to rattle off a list but I'd forget to include some people and that wouldn't be right. Let's put it this way, I've travelled up to the Olympic Park practically every day over the past 2½ weeks. And everyone - absolutely everyone - I met from the moment I left home until I came back at night was fully behind the Games and great [I mean GREAT] ambassadors for our country. I've never been really clear about what "Britain at its best" meant before. But I am now - that was it. London 2012. I think the whole country should feel very proud of the spectacular show we put on and the way we welcomed the world. Everyone - absolutely everyone - was fantastic.
You've heard the news and read the papers the same as I have over the past couple of weeks. These are some headlines from papers I've read over the past few days;
"IOC Chief says best games ever" ......"A golden day for Britain" ......"The finest night in British sport" ....."London wins the gold for Olympics" ..... "Our finest Olympians. Our finest Olympics" ..... "An Olympics of amazing achievements" ..... "Our greatest athletes in the greatest Games ..... "London's dazzling Olympics"
Beat that Rio!!!
An end-of-Games bash had been organised for tonight. It was held in one of the now vacant hospitality suites and I thought it had all the hallmarks of going on for some time [and getting a bit messy]. It wasn't only Team Anna's people there. Loads of people gathered to eat, drink and watch a big telly. I deliberately walked slowly out of the Park trying to squeeze every last second of atmosphere out of it knowing that when I'd left, that was it. I felt a bit sad going to Stratford tube. But I think it's one of those times when it's better to smile because it happened rather than cry because it's over.
That's about it then. I've still got some photos and videos to post and I'll do that as quickly as I can. Thanks for your company over the past couple of weeks. This is Ken at London 2012 saying goodbye for the last time.
Over and out ….
