Evening all …..
My blog I mean, not Team GB. They're going to go onwards and upwards. If I don't watch it, I'll turn to gibberish pretty quickly and go downwards. Thing is, I'm going to run out of superlatives soon. Today was astounding for our team. Amazing. Awesome. [See, there's three words I can't use again]. And curiously they all start with "A". Maybe it's "Belter" tomorrow? Thank God for a thesaurus.
Before I move on, we had a question from Helen Priest about the number of toilets in the Park. The answer's a lot. Thanks for your question Helen and I hope that helps. I had another question today from someone who was queuing up to get inside the stadium. "Can we buy food once we get inside?". I suddenly felt queasy and that glazed look come over my eyes again. I thought of Traffic Supervisor Terry. Now HE would have known the answer …… "I don't **** ing know". But we Games Makers aren't like that so I smiled weakly and said I don't know. How pathetic is that ….?
Moving on, you all know by now of course that the athletics started today. That was immediately obvious when I arrived at the Olympic Park at my normal time of 745am. It was HEAVING. [I didn't see Terry today but can imagine what he would have said …… "****ing ****". Or something like that]. So a week after the Opening Ceremony, the athletics kicked off and the whole world was here to watch it. Every nationality, colourful, smiling, happy it really was a joy to be there. I gather tomorrow's Super Saturday when it could be even busier if that's possible. Every day I feel so lucky. Every day I feel privileged.
When I was on the way home tonight, boss Anna rang me to say they'd got a ticket for the stadium tonight and would I like it? Hell yes I would. But sadly was already on the long journey home and have to be back at 930 tomorrow so had to say no. Pity but there you go ….
The Olympic Park is big [sure I've read the measurements somewhere …. 2km x 1km?] and I like to walk around it as much as I can to soak up the atmosphere. It's unbelievable [another word I can't use again …… see what a problem this is?]. And when a shout goes up from the Stadium or the Aquatic Centre just in front of it, it's electric.
The penny dropped for me today. I'm there as a member of the transport team to be a welcoming face for Marketing Partners and their guests. I do that either where their coaches come in or at the Olympic Hospitality Centre itself. There's the bendy-bus shuttle that connects the two which are about a mile away apart. But I always walk that when I can rather than catch the bus. Because then I mingle with the people who have come such a long way to be at London 2012. And that - for me - is the delight. The hours spent with Marketing Partners is a bit of an interruption to what the Olympic Games is really about. And you get that in bucketloads when you wander through the Park. I love it ….
I work in a good team. There are some interesting and engaging [and very different] people. It's always a good laugh. We're about half-way through it now and I think we're all more relaxed about what we're meant to be doing and more confident. Everyone - us, the drivers, security people, the army, traffic marshalls, catering staff - all seem to get along well.
OK. Hight spot of today. Chris and I were having our fish and chips lunch [Chris moaned a bit that he didn't get enough chips. But I think he's the sort of 21 year old who will never get enough chips]. Boss Anna came in. "Just had word that the Queen might be on her way. Need you outside now". So off we went to form a Games Maker guard of honour. [Chris eventually joined us when he'd finished his chips]. Alas, the big moment never came so after about 30 minutes we disbanded. [Most of us went back to work. Chris went in search of more chips]. Two or three police cars were waiting there all the time as we stood to attention. I gather that it was the Duke of Wessex. [My wife has just reminded me who the Duke of Wessex is but I've forgotten again]. Other visitors today I think were Bradley Wiggins, Tony Blair, David Cameron and Boris Johnson. By the way, I hope you like the way I casually drop these names into the conversation. I don't necessarily see them all; I just hear they might be in the vicinity.
OK, got to go now. So if today was astounding, amazing and awesome, what will tomorrow bring? [Apart from being a belter? Or a cracker? That's going to worry me for hours now]. Maybe a cracker [oh, there we go. Skipped over the "B"s]. Photos to follow soon [ish]. Many thanks for tuning in. See you tomorrow Ken

Paula This really makes me smile Ken. Can't ever imagine you 'standing to attention' but, if you say so, then i'll have to believe. Don't think you'll ever come down to earth after all this - can you imagine trying to sell Betterware with a silly grin still on your face ??!!
