Hello again ….
I suppose the thing about today was that it was the first day back at work since the Opening Ceremony and I wasn't sure what the trains and tube would be like. [By the way, does the Opening Ceremony seem like light years ago to you now or is it just me?]. Anyway, I got the 0552 up to London just in case. Busy but not too much so. The tube was the same. That meant I got to the park around 745am. There were already loads of people queuing up and they were already going in. I had time on my hands so just wandered around for a while soaking up the atmosphere. And taking pictures of families and groups of people together. Beautiful sunny morning with a blue sky and a happy atmosphere. This really is so great and such a privilege.
Around 9am, I went along to our canteen thingy for a cup of tea. No sign of any other of the other Games Makers in my team so I had another. [No sign of boss Anna, the bendy-buses or bendy-bus drivers for that matter]. But in time, over they came and we chatted away until Anna appeared. Silence fell for the day's briefing. She said that there hadn't been any complaints about what we're doing so "Keep up the good work". I didn't want to spoil her day so I kept quiet about the IOC official and the French government minister I upset yesterday. She went on to say that the high spot yesterday was when Princess Ann rolled up last night after I'd gone [not in a bendy bus I hasten to add]. And she said that it was Michelle Obama who was in that American cavalcade of cars that I mentioned yesterday.
I like Anna's style. She's employed by LOCOG and has a good balance between being businesslike, professional, focussed and deeply deeply cynical. This morning was businesslike and professional. We got a little lecture about impressions and image and the high-profile nature of the people we'd be doffing our caps to and whose shoes we'd be polishing. She asked …… hang on, not she didn't, she IMPLORED us to be good ambassadors for London 2012 at all times. "The more we can do to work together and greet our guests in a standard way the better. Any thoughts?". [I was one of a few people who said something and I think she quite liked my idea. I think most of the others felt I was the class swot so I might well get beaten up soon]. For reasons that escape me, there's quite a lot of comings and goings of the people in our little team. Akquil was the latest. He's the second Akquil and the three of us were sent to the hinterland of the coach entrance [to be good ambassadors and professional].
Sadly, the devil makes work for idle hands. There wasn't much to do and I had an idea. "Hey, if I come up with a couple of verses, could you rap it at the briefing tomorrow morning?" They were well up for that. This is what I gave them [sorry, you'll have to get a beat going and rap it yourself];
Don't want to walk? We've got a bus
It's here right now. For you! No fuss!
The OHC is where it's all at
Just follow me and my Games Maker hat.
We're Team Anna and we're on top of the job.
We escort guests to the IOC Club.
Always hi-vis and with a big smile
Team Anna's people will run the extra mile
Maybe a few minor tweaks tomorrow morning but I think we might have the basis of a team song there. At the very least it should be a bonding experience. Can't wait! If it goes well, I'm thinking of suggesting we develop a sort of synchronised greeting routine. I think it could work …..
Anything else you need to know? Saw Dean just before I left - he still hasn't got any pins. I was quite blunt I'm afraid. I told him how disappointed I was after all his big words. He mysteriously said he's made contacts and there's big news just around the corner. Marie Claire still nil. Me [of course] still nil. But - here's a new name - Nico. Bit of a dark horse suddenly pops up with five. INCLUDING ONE OF THE LONDON2012 SYMBOL …… worth its weight in gold.
Better go ……. starting to feel I need to get out more
