Hello everyone ….
You can tell it's getting near the end now. No crowds on the train. No crush to get in. All a breeze this morning. But mind you there was only hockey on until this afternoon [sorry to all the hockey fans. No insult meant]. So I didn't expect much from the day [again wrong]. My focus was drinking tea and wandering around. I've got some videos of that walkabout including from the Coca Cola Beatbox but am having trouble in uploading them so you might have to wait until I get some time to sort …. sorry.
I went back to our canteen for more tea. To meet anyone else who might drift in. And to keep an eye out for any surplus breakfast baps. Chris had said that he thought they just chucked them at 10am when they started getting ready for lunch. Lo and behold, just after ten up popped Anna with a trayful of them. That's a way to keep the troops happy. The bus drivers had come in by then and it was a feast. Think about Homer Simpson and food …… "FOOD" and dribbling in bucketloads. That was us …. well me anyway
The only big bit in the briefing was to Games Maker volunteers [as opposed to Games Makers who are getting paid which ruled about 30-40% of them out]. "You must be at the Games Maker celebration party this afternoon at 230pm".Three-line whip from Boss Anna - ignore those at your peril. No I'm kidding, she's a lovely person. She read out an e-mail from Sebastian Coe saying well done and don't let up now. Those of you of a certain vintage might remember a TV programme called "Are You Being Served?". As Anna was reading the e-mail, I couldn't help thinking of young Mr Grace touring the Grace Bros store and saying "You've all done very well".
I'm trying desperately not to be cynical here ….. I hope you are too. The Games Maker [Volunteers-only] Celebration Party was a nice touch and an unexpected touch. And actually quite emotional - at least I found it so. It was held in the gigantic work force staff canteen. It was just bottles of pop, Pringles, ice cream and biscuit [thanks sponsors …… does anyone out there know who makes Pringles?]. Then a couple of people made speeches. Lord knows what they sad but presumably something good because everyone who could hear whooped and hollered. Funny really, there's dozens of Games Makers out in the Park welcoming visitors and booming out "WELCOME TO LONDON 2012". Maybe they were all paid though and were jealous of us and refused to give up their megaphones. Whatever the reason, there wasn't one inside this gigantic area and I haven't got a clue what the speakers were going on about.
At the end, the Olympic Park Games Maker choir [didn't know there was one] sang three quick things; Hey Jude, You Raise Me Up and Consider Yourself One Of Us. Don't mind admitting that brought tears to my eyes at the end. All of these people have been like a second family over the past couple of weeks and I'll miss them big style. It's been an AMAZING experience and I wouldn't have missed it for the world. You might [or might not] be able to see that video. I've got it on the computer and have just tried and it's too big for Yahoo. Just hoping Off Exploring will. If there's a problem, the power of thought might just tip it. 12 noon tomorrow's the time. At that precise moment, stop whatever you're doing, close your eyes and clear your mind. Think only one thought ….. "Upload the video". It might just work. I guess Terry might not be holding his breath though. Don't like to pre-judge but I suspect his answer would be "You're **** ed mate". Let's try and prove Terry wrong shall we? Come on, together we can do it. Remember 12 noon tomorrow ….
What else can I tell you about today? Well, I've been standing out in the sun a lot. Someone came up to me in our canteen this morning and said "We've been keeping an eye on you over the past couple of weeks. And we all agree that you're getting darker and darker each time you come in". I hasten to add that she meant "darker" as in "tanned" rather than "melancholic". At least I hope so. On the train back home I wondered about that though. Sure you know that I'm always in shorts. But it's been trousers all the way over the Olympics. Thinking now that I may look like a Neopolitan ice-cream on Monday when the shorts are back on.
Let me pay tribute to my wife Sue here. Not only did she say it ways OK to do this in the first place; two weeks of pure, complete and utter self-indulgence on my part. That was about two years ago and I bet she never thought it would come to this. But now I'm there, I get in, say hello and disappear to do my blog. My amazing time wouldn't have been possible without her love and support. I was in tears tonight when I played the video to her of the choir and their songs. Rightly or wrongly, I find it all very moving and very emotional.
We're nearly there brothers and sisters, my loyal band of [mostly] co-opted Games Makers. Georgie, you're at least one who has a FABULOUS time to look forward to at the Para-Olympics. I envy you so much. You'll love it.
Only TWO days to go!!! Back tomorrow. Right, I'll try and put that video on. Take care Ken

Colin I have really enjoyed getting an inside peek of what you have been getting up to. Enjoy your final days (at the Olympics I mean!!) Colin
