你好,
Today has been a rather mixed up day. Last night I received a text from Sophia asking if I could teach a lesson to a class in No.3 Middle School to try and get the pupils enthusiastic about learning English. Not really sure what I was going to do, I agreed as today Lucie and I had no classes at No.1 due to it being the first day of the 3 day sports meeting.
At 9am I met Sophia and the teacher from No.3 (who I actually discovered is a college student called Viola, who's on placement in Yihuang) and was given the textbook they learn English from. I was asked to talk about cartoons, specifically Mickey Mouse and then play some games with them. At 10:30 I went to the class and did a page out of the textbook - reading an article about cartoons - and then showed the class some Mickey Mouse cartoon clips and finishing off the class with Simon Says. For being quite ill-prepared the pupils seemed to enjoy the class and the teachers were pleased, saying maybe another time Lucie could take a class.
During the lunch time, Lucie and I packed for Shanghai and cooked all of the vegetables in the fridge for our lunch. We decided to go to the school in the afternoon to watch our students take part in their sports meeting, and it was actually quite entertaining. There were 6 different events, and 5 running simultaneously - high jump, long jump, shot put, javelin and 100m/400m races. We were quite worried for some of the students, as over 3/4 of them do the sports in jeans and tshirts/jumpers. The ones running the races really pushed themselves from the very beginning and quite a few collapsed during or as they finished the race.
The taxi picked us up from our apartment at 4pm and we were finally on our way to Shanghai!! (Though we wouldn't actually get there until almost 20 hours later!) Our train to Nanchang was delayed by 20 minutes, nothing to worry about as our train to Shanghai was leaving 2 hours after we arrived in Nanchang. Sitting in Nanchang station we started talking to a Chinese college student who is studying English. His English was really good and we swapped emails. Our train left Nanchang 40 minutes late but we were finally on our way. We had booked 'hard sleepers' for the 10 hour train journey - we had a narrow bed (wasn't actually too hard) that was one of a 3 bed high bunk bed, and 2 bunks were in each crevice set back from the pathway.
We settle into our bunks and prepared for the remainder of our journey,
Until tomorrow,
再见 x
