Kari goes to Lincoln, England
This was a very fun day. I had workshop for my radio class at 11am, and were we only supposed to be in groups of three today. The group that I had been with from the week before was 4 with me so I went with Harry and Dave because their third member wasn?t there. The assignment for the day was to create a 30-second advertisement or public service announcement. We decided to do a recruitment ad for the Army. And they were supposed to be kind of unrealistic so that we didn?t get in trouble or something so our big catch to join the army was that you would get a free candy bar. It was a fun ad and I really liked working with Harry and Dave. They really knew what they were doing with the equipment and even let me do a few things to help out. We needed to record foot stomps, because apparently that is in a lot of army ads over here, so Dave and I were doing that. It didn?t sound good on the carpet so we ended up standing in the doorway on this piece of wood and it was fun. Harry recorded the voice and then they found this song and put it in the background. I really enjoyed working with them, because they were really productive and on top of things and knowledgeable. But I think I have to go with a different group next week L on the positive side ? we didn?t have seminar today. It was 1pm and I had the whole day ahead of me. I decided to walk to the castle and see that because last Saturday hadn?t worked out very well. It was a gorgeous day outside ? nice and sunny. I got warm walking up steep hill and it reminded me of a fall day back in MN. I got warm wearing a jacket, but there was still a crisp cold to the air, so it wasn?t that warm. I arrived at the castle around 1:45. I started out by walking through the prison part and saw the chapel ? it was really freaky because each prison has to sit in this confined area with no seat really, just something to lean on. They can only see the preacher and cannot see each other. I went and stood in the preacher stand and there are fake people out there in the audience ? CREEPY! (see pictures) I walked outside and then around the castle wall and got some great pictures of Lincoln from up there. It was chilly though and my hands were getting cold. It took me awhile to walk all the way around and back and then I climbed up the observatory tower which is what I took lots of pictures of (its the castle looking thing with the flag on top) I got some really good pictures from on top of this. Then I ventured down and checked out the rest of the stuff inside the castle walls. There?s the Lucy Tower ? which is kind of the last resort area in a siege. The steps were really difficult to climb and really steep. There wasn?t a whole lot up there ? just some gravestones of the people who had been put to death at the castle and a tree. I walked back down and there was this guy standing there who started talking to me because he was waiting for his co-worker. They were working on something, but I didn?t get what he said. After this I went inside and walked past the jail cells again and then I went into the Magna Carta. That was an interesting display and there was also this document that was really old, which was one of the original ? but not THE original. I had pretty much seen everything and it was about 3 pm at this point. I had walked around there for quite a while. Then I went and looked at all the cool stuff in the gift shop ? medieval castle stuff ? but I just bought a few postcards. After I left the castle I stopped in this Lincoln gift shop store. It was pretty cool with England gift stuff in it. I was starting to get hungry because all I had eaten that day was yogurt and an apple. There?s a tearoom right at the top of the hill called Steep Hill Tea Rooms and I thought what the heck. I was looking over the menu and couldn?t decide what to have. I thought about having the afternoon tea, which is a pot of tea and a scone. The lady was a little slow coming back over to get my order and then I saw the high tea or something like that. It was a sandwich, scone, a pot of tea and a piece of cake. I thought well that sounds good and I am getting pretty hungry. It was about 4pm and I hadn?t really eaten all day, so I went for it. I got egg mayonnaise sandwich, tea, a scone and chocolate fudge cake. I was really excited for it. They brought the tea out to me right away, which was in a cute little yellow pot, and the china for the teacup was adorable with little flowers on it. I was savoring the warm tea as I was freezing when she brought me the rest of my food on a cute two level tray. I was so awed by it, that of course I had to take pictures. So check em out. I left the tearoom a little after four and just walked some more. There was a shop that had all teddy bears and animals in it of all different sizes. It was cool because none of them were in boxes; they were all just shoved on the shelves. In the back was dollhouse stuff and that was expensive, you could buy a tea set for the dolls, which cost 34pounds, yikes talk about expensive hobby!!! I was really enjoying just walking by myself and came to this candy store where everything is in jars on the shelves and you can get as much or as little as you want. Well, I guess there is a minimum but its not that much. I had no idea what to get because there were jars and jars and I didn?t know where to begin. I asked the lady for advice on things that were good and ended up choosing fried eggs (a gummy candy that doesn?t taste like eggs, it tastes like candy I guess) and blackberry and raspberry jellies which were also good. After this I stopped and looked at a few more things before heading back to my room. I did have to stop at the Spar (conv. Store) to get milk because I was too tired to walk all the way to Morrison?s. I got home and started downloading my pictures from the day and working on stuff and next thing I knew tiredness hit me. I had plans to go out with the flat mates that night and thought I have to take a nap because I think it was pretty late when I had gone to bed the night before. I slept for about an hour and when I woke up they said they were leaving in half an hour so I had to hurry to straighten my hair. We started our night at a pub called the shed and then went to a club called scream. It was fun except that Elli wouldn?t dance with Viv and I because she was talking to this boy that she fancies (likes). I took stupid pictures of them and she was getting mad and wanted to see my camera?haha. She left early so then Viv and I walked home together. It was a good night. I like going out with the flat mates and will have to do it more often. So this website is not working right now with the uploading of pictures and I can?t seem to figure it out at the moment. I also have my pictures posted on this website and here?s the link. Smiles
