Waking up today to a perfect summers day was a wonderful suprise - apparently it happens only once a year where they get 3-4 days in a row of perfect weather. So with nothing really to do we went with a few of Jose's friends for a drive and then walk around the city. You really get to see the best of a city when the sun is out and everyone seems to be far happier. In the evening Jose had invited a bunch of people around for some food and drinks so in the afternoon we went shopping and planned to cook some typical Columbian cuisine. At around 10pm Jose's friends started coming around and we started cooking; I made a kind of Indian curry with soy mince and vegetables and Jose made Patacon and fried calamari. Patacon is basically a deep fried type of banana that is cooked until hard and then covered in cheese - even though I couldn't eat the cheese it was still incredibly delicious and the fried squid rings were also a big hit; being cleaned of the plate as soon as they hit the table. Although I couldn't understand much of what was being said between everyone I could understand a little more then I could in Chile as Argentinians generally speak a lot slower. One of Jose's friends Lorena is an English teacher and so it was nice to be able to speak English with her and get some ideas and organise a camping trip for next weekend. Most of Jose's friends could speak a little English which was good but I really need to improve my Spanish if I have any hope of getting to know this country and its people. At around 2am everyone left so we cleaned up a bit and then called it a night.
