Sat. 10th Oct.At last spring has arrived in Tasmania it has been 14 degrees, dry and sunny and what a difference it made to our day.Saturday is Salamanca market day in Hobart and is one of the major tourist attractions. We thought we wouldn't be able to park but because of the season we parked easily but had to go back every 2 hours to renew the voucher as they call the parking ticket here.We are not really market people but it was good to be able to stroll around and there are lots of street entertainers around. We took a 1hr lunch cruise around the harbor in an old tub of a boat which Joe would describe as having character and there were only 4 of us on it so it was like having our own yacht. The food was surprisingly good there was a choice of 5 main dishes and both the lamb chops and the chicken snitzel were plentiful with new potatoes and fresh salad for $30 it was very good. The other couple had just moved down from Queensland to Hobart because the man has got a place on the Antarctic expedition force and will leave Hobart in Dec. for 12 months. It is very difficult to get a place and over 6000 applied. In the afternoon we drove up Mt Wellington which overlooks Hobart. It is an amazing drive and the road goes right to the summit because of the unseasonly weather there is still snow up there and people were having snow fights and building snowmen on top of their cars.Tomorrow we leave Hobart and head towards the west coast and then Cradle Mountain.
