Weds.7th Oct.When we switched the morning show on the TV today they were proudly showing viewer's photos of snow in Hobart and surrounding areas it seems it is one of the coldest springs anyone can remember. The drive to Richmond was atrocious with sweeping rain and we dreaded getting out of the car but it actually cleared and was dry for us but cold.We don't mind the cold after all we are English/Australians but the rain is more difficult when you are on the move every night. We have booked into a motel on the outskirts of Hobart for 4 nights. We wanted to be in the city centre or by the waterfront but the only available accommodation were at exorbitant prices. We liked Richmond which is reckoned to be one of the best preserved early settlements in Aus. and has the earliest bridge built by convicts in 1823 and still in use.The goal is also worth a visit and brings home to you the conditions some of the convicts and their jailers lived in. The bakery is good especially the smooth lemon tart. Tomorrow will probably be Port Arthur or the Huon Valley
