I am not feeling it today and it is the first time in a while that I have not wanted to get up and go to work.
I am still a little tired from the weekend and inside my mood is still a little low from some comments made on Friday. Some people are so opinionated and stereotypical at the same time and don't realise the impact on the harsh words.
Management are listening to my suggestions and wanting me to implement them but some of the other volunteers feel that i am (I guess) undermining their work as they have made no progress and some of my suggestions overlap into their work.
It has made me a feel like I don't want to follow through with them but at the same time I know that I have only here for 6 more weeks and I doubt they will think of me again when I leave. Except as perhaps that annoying auditor that came in with a whirl of ideas and stepped on our toes... hmmn
I don't wear makeup round the house or at weekends and I have forgotten to put any one today. I am feeling rather self-conscious - especially as my hair is also wet :-s we shall see how long it takes for someone to tell me I am looking tired or terrible?
We had quite a big weekend. After work on Friday we went to The Vic which is a 5 star hotel and had a few cocktails and listened to a live band. Afterwards we had some tapas at a guesthouse called The Ivy but I don't really rate The Ivy. Service and food was not good although I think the worst bit was the rich, posh RUDE traveller girls to our left.
After riding home in the dark we then stayed up with a few drinks and sorted the playlist for our house party on Friday.
By 3 am I was falling asleep on the sofa, so time to call it a night!
Saturday... I was pretty sleepy. Woke up about 11.30 and placed myself on the sofa with a giant bowl of cornflakes :-)
Saturday was a tidying up day.
The house has marble floors and it is in need of constant brushing and mopping. The amount of sand that is brought in a bugs.. oh my so many!
So saturday we cleaned!
For the first evening in maybe 2 months the Shinti Mani Market was on. Going forward it will be held every 1st and 3rd saturday but this was the first for a while so pretty busy and popular.
The Shinti Mani Market is a market where charities and their organizations set up a stall and you are able to purchase traditional Cambodian merchandise which have been manufactured by actual locals and the proceeds will go to the locals themselves.
the Market was vibrant with lights and music. So much colour and enthusiasm around. It was also in the most beautiful setting with the Shinti Mani Hotel being the backdrop.
There was food such as spring rolls and some traditional Kernel but also Pancakes.. :-)
The process for a lot of the items were extremely high but I did manage to pick up a few presents. Also came across a small shop which made bags and wallets and laptop carriers out of fishing nets. So clever. I Will most certainly be purchasing a few of them! Actually that is one thing I did notive at the market the creativity and ability to use everyday objects (sometimes seen as rubbish) to make things was brilliant.
Jewelry, wallets, bags made out of paper.
Rings, necklaces and bracelets made of knives and forks.
Bags, wallets, laptop carriers made of fishing nets.
Belts and bags made from ring pulls (the kind you have on a cola can)
Jewelry and other items made of Bullets.
We then walked into town and had a few cocktails.
On the way from one bar to the next we came across a market stall selling pashminas and silk scarves. I may have bought or two for me and a Christmas present :-)
Very pleased with my purchases.
At one point the bar we were in lost their power.
We moved into the street and one of the tuk tuk drivers decided to Jive with Rachel.
Rachel the tuk tuk driver and myself then jived.
A girl joined us, followed by 2 guys.
This then turned into a full blown street party with 20 or so people dancing in the street.
The locals were filming us and dancing around with us all to.
Quite surreal but a highlight of the evening!
A few more dances, a few more bars and then the party came back to our house.
Hello sunrise....time for bed.
Seems to be a recurring theme.
A nice cooked lunch at Rosy's and an early night was Sunday.
Today I feel refreshed but don't want to be at work. Sad face - Shame the girls have unintentionally made me feel like this - I'm sure I will snap out of this in half an hour.
Oh and I have a giant mosquito bite. it is a perfect circle... one inch by one inch.
