I am really getting stuck into things at work. I am working alongside a volunteer management accountant to get the accounts prepared and this audit complete.

Erik is a management accountant with a vast amount of experience, his last post was in a hospital in London and he has worked with This Life once before. Which is great as his has some experience and knowledge of the issues faced last ast year.

He is only here for one week though and is away for 3 weeks. I need to ensure that every transaction posted during the year firstly was correct and that is was posted to the correct accounts.

I then need to ensure that all the recommendations from last year have been put into practice. We will then prepare the accounts and work with the auditors to have them reviewed. During this process I am going to work with Erik and the team to ensure that the accounts are to Best practice and keep in keep in mind IFRS. Even though I have been here only a few days I can see that this experience is going to be tremendous in building my skills.

I will be reviewing and working with systems I have not before, and from a different angle. whilst I have seen and prepared accounts in my studies it is not the real world with real issues and at lest this way I might remember how! It is particularly good being part of a NGO as I get to see the actual benefits to the children and the community.
