Tonight we went tk the Phare Cambodian Circus. It is an incredible show that blends traditional and modern theater beautifully choreographed music and dance performed by under privalledged youngsters age 8 to 30.
The show was not as I expected...it was better. I knew I was going to see a show by a small number of dancers/performers and musicians but didn't realise the immense talent that they have.
They really told the story , they performed it and felt it.
Phare is a non-profit organization and thier efforts are to bring Cambodian arts to the rest of the world
It was a blend of traditional and modern theater, music, dance, acrobatics, juggling and contortion, all brilliant choreography
“Phare: The Cambodian Circus” is an offshoot project of Phare Ponleu Selpak (PPS Association), which translates as “Brightness of the Arts.” The PPS Association is a Cambodian non-profit, non-governmental association, founded in 1994 by 8 young Cambodian ex-refugee artists from Anchanh Village, Ochar Commune in Battambang Province.
A proceeds go to the children of the school.
The performance we same was called the adventure. It was about aygoing lad that left his home in battambang due to domestic violence. In his travels (adventure) to Phnom Penh he meets some interesting characters.
The performers as visually very talented performance was inspiring.
They threw each other round like they weighed nothing, flipped so many rimes you got dizzy watching, but it was never to much.
They made a 5 story pyramid of people and the top person balance on one hand.
The humour was in all the right places and they included the audience into the show pretending to try and sell oranges or a pill that will cure all illnesses.
I have some amazing photos from the evening but cannot upload them until I can get hold of a PC.
They have a new show each nonth and the next one is called Chills. I am going to see if I can go to this show next weekend (18th or 19th).
