A month ago today I left the comfort of Guernsey for Cambodia and each say I want to stay longer!
I have:
- visited two countries
- crossed a border
- ridden on the back of moto (maybe without a helmet)
- seen the temples and lost kingdoms
- fed my feet to fish
- gotten a massage on the street (pub street, its the norm)
- been offered a lady boy
- taken a pottery class
- woken at 4am to catch a train and (ddifferent day) watch the sunrise at Angkor Wat
- partied till the sun came up (6;30am to be precise)
- Danced on tables
- taken a 3.5hr boar, 6 hour bus and train, 12hr flight, another 6hour train, 3 hour coach, 45 mins (in total) Tuk tuk in the space of less than 60hours
- been part of a Buddhist ceremony
- been invited to a two day wedding (in November)
- moved in to an awesome house with a new friend
- learnt a few words in Khmer
- realised that it is said Khmi not Khmer
- learnt to leave the house with no make up
- be able to sleep in 30 degree heat
- Have frogs sing me to sleep every night
- given in the fact that the moment you step outside you will sweat (nice)
- learnt what the hose was for next to the toilet
- finally managed to never put loo roll down the toilet
- be comfortable with jumping spiders and bugs everywhere
And many other things in between but lastly, be comfortable in who I am. No make up, frizzy hair, swearig the second i get outside and meeting lots of randoms has helped.
Additionally, There are so many amazing people in the world one doesn't need to be any one other than themselves. If it isnt right for that person then they aren't right for you.
True/real Friends are special.
So long as you know what's right, have good morales, and don't judge...its all good.
Cambodia is a heart breaking yet beautiful place. What touches me most are the kind spirits that reside here. The persona, gratiousness and kindness of most people here is wonderful and has been lost or maybe never was in the western world. It is something all westerners should take away, and something our world should learn!
I'm not saying its all rosy, it is a far cry from that but that particular element is worth mentioning.

JL I agree it is being spoil by greed. It seems that most of the issues in the world is caused by greed. :-(
