Santiago City seems like a really safe city.. Maybe its just the places I`m hanging out in? The reason why I think this is due to the amount of security guards. The are many types.. a few are - the security guard at the metro stations, every metro station. These also double as friendly advice givers and helpers with ticket issues. They also help you through the turn styles if you have lots of bags. Secondly there are security guards at my building. They just stroll around making sure all the inhabitants of the building are happy. Then there are securuty guards at banks, malls, shops, street corners.. Chile has the market covered on security I tell ya.
Enough of that, yesterday since the sun was shining I went for a huge long walk and then at the end of it treated myself to movie, the Time Travellers wife, this was mainly because I was estatic to hear it was in English and I absolutely loved the book. When I got home H was heading out the door and invited me along to a party (fonda) he was working at. Unfortunetly every one I knew at the party would actually be working but I decided to go along anyway (not like I had other pressing engagements!). and I also believed I would never find the place as - a) I didn´t understand H`s instuctions, fired at me at a million miles an hour in Spanish. But alas, I bit the bullet and went along. Amazingly, I found the place and it wasn´t a party at all, it was a band. I arrived about 3 hours before they actually started so I helped people set up. And I was thinking to myself, hmm I think I`m destined to be a professional groupie. I hang out with bands here in Chile, just like back in Wellys. Interesting. They were an amazing band.... think sca/punk with that Latin flair. Very easy to dance to, luckily as everyone I knew was on the staff and not available for hanging out and dancing. But I thoroughly enjoyed it as with this whole weekend. Although my bank balance isn`t feeling the same way. Hence, I´ve had to re think some dates and depending on word from the travel agent will probably be back in Wellington end of Jan, to give me some time to save for Canada - as that is not happening here! I always knew in the back of my mind, what I would be able to do/afford would come clear once I got here, and unfortunetly the money I am making is not quite cutting it. However, my Spanish is coming along nicely and so is my empananda eating skills. haha xxoo
