We left Yellowstone National park today, but not before running into another bison jam. We got around this one once there were no cars on the incoming lane.
We drove to Cody, returned the car rental and drove to a Mexican restaurant for lunch. The food was edible but bland so we were disappointed.
Our next destination was Scott's Bluff in Nebraska. When driving through the mountains in the West I allot extra driving time if I do not know how the terrain will be. The RV goes much slower if there are steep inclines. I allocated about a day and 1/2 of driving to get to Nebraska. As it turned out the roads were good and after the pass coming out of Yellowstone there were no big inclines.
We are also driving through a different route than I originally planned. Since we had to come back to Cody to return the car, we exited Yellowstone through the East instead of the South. .This had us driving on Route 20. During the planning I saw there were interesting things to do on that route, but did not plan for stops there since we were not going to pass by. The drive on 20 was beautiful. We passed by Hot Springs State park in Thermopolis, WY. I would have stopped but Gil did not want to, so we continued on. We drove though the Wind River Canyon Scenic Byway. We saw groups white water rafting in the river below. What a beautiful area of Wyoming. Next time we come to this area we will make it a point to stop here. I am not sure we got any pictures of it. We have to check to see if we have it on the dash camera.
It was early and I was tired, so I wanted to stop on a campground I had marked on Route 26, but we got busy discussing where to stop and passed it. After that there were several other places, but they did not look good. We ended up stopping for a quick fast food dinner instead and Gil then drove us all the way to Scott's Bluff. We arrived at Walmart about 9PM. The parking lot was pretty full of RVs also spending the night.
We will now sight see in the morning and then head out after that, putting us about 1/2 day ahead of my loose schedule.
