We are spending 7 nights at the Yellowstone National Park, but some of those days will be spend visiting Grand Teton NP. Since there is an Eclipse that will be seen in totality in Grand Teton, we wanted to be there for it, but when I tried to make reservation everything was booked. I made reservations here instead and will visit both parks.
Yesterday and today we visited Yellowstone. Our goal was to see areas of the park we had not seen before.
On Wednesday we drove from Fishing Bridge to the Canyon Village, then out to Norris and Madison and back around. The highlights of the stops were the Firehole Canyon Drive where we found beautiful waterfall and a swimming hole I had not read about, and the Grand Prismatic Spring in the Midway Geyser basin.
Thursday we drove up to the Lamar Valley - we were told that is where the wildlife is hanging out these days. In the other areas we drove through, you would see the occasional Bison walking down the road, but not the herds we saw in the past. The Lamar valley was full of Bison herds. We also were trying to see bears. The ranger told us about areas where there are carcass and the animals have been coming to feast, but we did not see them. There was a wolf carcass pretty close to the road, but it was mostly gone and only the birds were there still at it.
The upper falls from Artist Point and the Mud volcano were repeat stops, but this time we saw Dragon's Mouth. This is a summarized account of that took us about 6-8 hrs. of travel to the park each day.
