This blog site map even though it says it's powered by Google, it does not find our National Parks. I have to select a city nearby as the location, not sure why. So it says I am writing this from Cody, when in fact we are in Yellowstone National Park.
After sleeping in until 9am, we got ready to check out of the park by 11. I had a reservation for a car at noon, but I called and asked if the car would be ready by 11 and it was. Off we went to the Yellowstone airport in Cody to pick up our car.
From there we drove to Walmart, where there are several RVs coming and going. Some looked like they spent the night there. We would have too, but arriving so early we like to have electricity. We really need to install an inverter in the RV. We went into Walmart for some shopping to replenish our supplies for the week. At home I do not do much shopping at Walmart, but on the road that is where we shop, even if there are other supermarkets in the area. I am thankful for their hospitality towards RVrs. I have done whole trips where we do not stay in a campground once. We go from Walmart to Walmart in different locations/towns/States, and it has been our overnight stops in many trips to FL.
We left the RV parked at Walmart and went to lunch in the car. Gil had been craving chicken parmesan so we found an Italian restaurant where he satisfied the craving.
There were a couple of sites in Cody that we wanted to check out, but alas it was not to be. While eating I checked the weather and it was predicting thunderstorms with 35mph winds and hail around 5PM. What is up with all these afternoon storms in this area?!
If we went to the attractions we would be caught in the storm in Cody, which meant we would have to wait to leave, making it a late drive into the park. It is about 80 miles to the campground, but the RV will have to go slower than the car through some of the area, so a 1 1/2 drive can turn to 2 or more.
We drove into the park and arrived around 4:30, after checking in and setting up we checked what is there to do around where we are. Fishing Bridge Visitor Center has an exhibit on birds and it is open until 7. We went to the VC to check it out, walked out to Yellowstone Lake beach to check the view. Kati and I tested the water, we thought it was warmer than we expected.
After that we went to the General Store to check it out. It has a little of everything. Souvenirs, groceries, camping supplies, a cafe and snack bar.
We came back to the RV and Kati and I headed out for a drive to see if we could see any wildlife. We spotted Elk and many birds - big birds. We also stopped at Steamboat Point.
We are staying here for a week and will also visit Grand Teton NP from here.
