Happy Easter everyone! As promised, we've finally got around to taking some pictures of our humble abode. It's not terribly impressive from the outside, especially at the moment as we're waiting for the landlord to organise a load of rubbish to be taken away, but it's home. An old school friend of mine, Anika, is coming to stay with us this weekend, so I guess we'll get around to taking some shots of Durham itself when we're showing her around the place! Stay tuned.
Heath and I had a fantastic Easter. It started rather badly, as Buster's exhaust decided to almost fall off. I'd noticed it getting louder over a few days and by Thursday it was a case of Pimp my Polo. However, in came Heath's boss to the rescue! We were completely overwhelmed by the generosity of Heath's boss at Connor Solutions. He found out about the problem, then told Heath to head home as he was busy for the next few hours, and he would come and pick him up later to fix Buster. So, Heath came home and we went out with a couple of friends for a drink while we waited for his call. It never came. So there we were, wondering what the hell we were going to do about our sick car, when at about 10pm Richard (Heath's boss) called to let us know he was currently out searching for the part and would then go and fix it and come pick Heath up in the morning to collect it. We couldn't believe it. While we'd been out having drinks, Richard had been out welding bits of metal on our car. It has to go down as one of the nicest and most generous things anyone has ever done for us - he went completely out of his way for us, expecting nothing in return. So, thanks to Richard we have our little car as good as new and were able to enjoy Easter!
I was working a fair bit, but we managed to visit High Force, the biggest waterfall in England on Saturday. The weather was beautiful and sunny all weekend (for England anyway!) and it was only about a 45 minute drive from Durham through some lovely little villages. Some of the photos up are the scenery along the way. On the way back we stopped at Middleton-Tees and had lunch in a little tea shop. I worked my first Saturday night at O'Neills and discovered how hard it is to hear a word anyone says when there's a live band playing and they're speaking with a thick, Northern Drunk accent!!! Some of the punters saw me coming and developed some interesting sign language. Sunday was work during the day and then Heath and I went for our Sunday roast (it's becoming a habit). On Monday we drove down to the coast and wound our way through all the little towns. We'd set out with Whitby in mind as our destination, but Whitby was heaving with people so we drove 10 minutes further south and stopped at a little place called Robin Hood Bay that friends had told us about. It was lovely there, just a small street lined with B&Bs, pubs, teashops and little stores. There was a line coming out the door at the fish and chip shop. The beach is a picking ground for fossils and when the tide is low you can walk a long way out over the rocks and see what you can find. Very glad we went there instead of joining the masses at Whitby. The whole weekend I couldn't help but feel we were missing a dog though - the English seemed to be out in force with their puppies everywhere we went! Monday nights O'Neills has a quiz night, so we joined forces with Pamela and Glen (the Aussies we met here) and had a go. I'm proud to say that we didn't come last! The quiz was centred around Belgium (the quizmaster having just visited there on holiday last week) so I thought it was quite an achievement!
It's school holidays at the moment, and I've made the executive decision that I don't particularly fancy teaching over here - it's very rough and I'd rather remember having a happy time over here instead of being stressed out all the time! So, I've found a job at a small, family run coach company that does day tours and short trips around England and Scotland. I start tomorrow, at first working 3 days a week (the rest of the time at the pub) and then full time in May. Very excited, I think I'll be very happy there. This has turned into a longer post than intended! Hope everyone had a very happy Easter full of chocolate!

A quick update from Heath:
I have moved up the ranks a bit where I work (http://www.connorsolutions.co.uk) , I am now fixing electronic circuit boards which don't work, once they have made it to the end of the production line. The boards that I fix are anything from smoke/fire alarms to DVD players and amplifiers. The circuit boards go through quite a process from start to finish and many things can go wrong in that process which can mean the boards don't work. Myself and about 3 other (good) blokes have the task of getting them going. While the pay is not fantastic, I have the opportunity to work as much overtime as I wish, which is a great help. I am enjoying the break from computer work but also seem to spend quite a bit of time working on my own projects and websites at home on my new laptop.
Bye for now...
