Friday 27th June
So I woke up a little late snoozed my alarm clock about 8 times as usual and got up to make my Nutri - Bites and tea. I tried to put small bits of honey in my tea, but couldn't taste anything, then I put a huge dollop in as I was a little late to hurry up and it was way too much so I had to pour it away. Then I tried to put some honey on my cereal but it just all clogged up to the spoon? Drat so I had to put that spoon away and get another. So disaster with the honey this morning! I'm going to email Stephanie and ask her how she uses it! I think It needs to be hot cereal to melt in, maybe I might try some oats or something. So went to Tangos for Christmas last night. I think over here they do that a lot a mid year Christmas, I heard on the radio this morning they were doing a big Mid Christmas Event / Dinner! We had lamb / ham and pork with carrots, peas, potatoes and gravy and Christmas pudding, gave each other our presents etc. I go some Glacier slime! Ooooh before was the team meeting which was good, just going through things like pull the chairs in when people leave, remember to re-cycle, wipe the coffee machine down after use etc. I met everyone and they were all really nice, I start there on 7th July at 11.00am. oooh get a lie in! They open the doors at 8.00am! They said they get about 5 people a day asking for jobs! So how incredibly lucky am I to secure the job from the UK! I can pick the amount of hours I work and the days! I said that I usually drink on a Saturday so I'm allowed Sundays off! It looks like a really nice clean café, with lots of icecream that's won awards and smoothy's and shakes blending blueberries and fruits of your choice! Eveything has a place there is lots of variety's of teas, toppings etc its just lovely. And it is a budget café which is good as everything is so expensive here. One family I've heard about from the UK have been renting here for a while and are having to go back to the UK as they cant afford the electricity bills! Electricity here is MASSIVLEY EXPENSIVE. They were using oil heaters and all sorts though. Me and mike hardly use any electricity we turn all lights off when we finish, we unplug everything after we use it and we use a log fire for heat! We recycle etc I'm very proud of us both! I have worked out that for electricity, log fire, and WI Fi we will have to pay approx $1200 at the end of our 15 week stay at Rimu Lane. That's about 450 pounds. We pay $10 a week for Wi Fi which is so incredibley slow its frustrating, we get free local calls which is great as everything is local and freephone here! It hink we will have to pay $150 for the firewood which is already chopped and stacked for us in the garden. Okay where was I? Ah yes yesterday I had dinner and Tango's and met the staff etc, then I watched street kings with James and Mike. Its $13 to go to the wackycinema, with plane seats, morris minor, big cushions at the front! We sat on an ordinary sofa with a puff stool. I had a double choc chip ice cream and at break they have an interval. Me and Mike think they don't stop the film at the interval as when we return it seems to miss a big bit of the film out! Obviously there is only one screen as I think it is someones converted house the cinema! At half time they make freshly baked cookies straight out the oven mmm we had one of those between us. The film wasn't that good and even Mike wasn't impressed. We met gus outside as he had finished with his interview and we gave him a lift home. Cardrona Mountain opened today, Mike has been waiting for 2 months for this! Then on Thursday night work called to ask if he could work! He was stuttering for about 5 minutes he didnt know what to say so he said he will call them back in 5 minutes. We discussed it, he felt bad because I have been working 2 jobs about 45 - 60 hours and week and he hasnt been getting any shifts, then they call and ask him and he wants to say no! I told him not to be stupid, we decided to say if they cant find anyone else he will do it at a last resort but he had plans. Luckily they never called him back and he went up the mountain. He said he lost it on one of the corners on the mountain but luckily it was into the mountain and not over one of the huge cliffs with no boundarys. I really dont know why in the summer they dont but boundarys all round the cliffs? I mean this would save peoples lives and they havent done it. Iwonder why? Anyway the weather wasnt that good, really icey, cold and visability poor, they couldnt see anything. ... On Friday night Gus invited us round to his as he had moved into his 5 star complex which he gets with the ski-ing instructors course. It was gorgeous, we met all his flat mates which were nice and they have a cleaner, a hot tub, gym, pool table, tennis court, garage, open shower etc! Party at Guss's! Me and mike rode our bikes there and left them there. Gus was starting his job on Saturday and wanted to borrow the bike to set off at 6.30am! It was pitch black and we couldnt see a thing. Then we had to walk home in the pitch black aswell. Although the Milky Way stars softened the blow as they are so clear and visible in w***a. I think it is only the Southern Hemesphere that can view the Milky Way and we here!
Saturday 28th June
Mike and I got up at about 8.30, it was a bit of a rush as James came round at 9.00 and we werent ready. We got in the car and was about to drive off when we realised we hadnt got our ski passes! We set off and had the ipod on in the car singing along like true travellers. I've definately put on weight as my ski pants are skin tight and so it my ski jacket my snow skirt wont even do up. Everytime I choose to eat healthy I put on weight? I think I am having larger meals though, but there is plenty of veg in there! Anyway we get to the top of the mountain and Mike hasnt put the ski chains on and he wont because he cant be arsed, its icey and slidy and we are driving up a mountian. Yesterday he said frostbite was near enough setting in as it took him 20 minutes to put the ski chains on in the ice cold in a tea shirt. James and his friend sat in the car as they were too cold and let him do it on his own! He had to wear a t-shirt as you get all muck all over you when you do it. He has been to Mitre Ten since then to get some old work gloves so when he does it next time his fingers wont break off. So we got to the top in one piece and got our snowboards out etc. And guess what? Mike forgot is Ski Boots! So he had to hire them for $22. That is so not like mike, but there was lots to think about ski passes, hats, gloves, snowboards, boots, water, mobile etc! We went up the lifts a few times, We only went down one slope as we didnt know the other one was open. Visibily was poor again but better than Friday. The snow was okay, it was very cold. We went to the cafe and had a hot chocolate and cookie and back on the mountain again we left after 3 hours as you couldnt see much. We went down the mountain and I pleaded with Mike to put the chains on but he or James Wouldnt. The patrollers stopped us just as we were going down the mountain and said is this a four wheeled drive and Mike nodded and he let us go down, then a 2nd patrol man, started waving his hands at us telling us to stop and put the chains on before we go down, Mike just ignored him and drove passed. You can imagine the state I was in at this point, screaming stop the car put the chains on! But he wouldnt and we drove down the mountain. He drove well and we drove at 10miles an hour all the way, letting all the 4 x 4's get passed. It was scary and I was sick of my own voice by the end of the journey! When we got back to Wanaka town we decided to go for an Indian. $9 for curry and rice which is good. I got butter chicken as it is the only indian I like (and have tried!) We got a cheesey nan bread each aswell which was $2 and a drink. We spent quite a bit today as we also had chicken and chips on the mountain and a cup of tea.aswell. We got home and we were shattered, but no rest for the wicked I had the College Ball to go to! So I had a shower and grabbed some food and started to get ready. I had nothing to wear, and for once when I say this I'm tellin the god forbidden truth! The only shoes I have are the ankle boots that the 70year old woman gave me that were hers and a lace dress that Kelly at work had lent me. So I wore the lace dress, with my thermal leggins / PJs as tights, my ankle boots and a black sunglasses velvet bag as my handbag, as i only have a sporty pink gola bag with me! So i looked a little odd, but I just about pulled it off! Mike gave me a lift and I took a vodka and lemonade in a glass in the car on the way to meet the teachers for pre-drinks at UNO wine bar, above relishes cafe. It was very classy, small, no dance floor or anything like that just a little swish bar. I didnt have a drink as they were leaving soon. I was glad to see Abby there, who is around my age from Manchester. She is going to Cambridge to study English Lit and is helping out in the School on since Jan until she goes to UNI in September, she leaves in a week and is soooo upset. She wants to stay. So we left UNO and went to the Ball. It was Alice in Wonderland Theme and was gorgeous. The Perfect College Ball. When you went in there was a line of people to shake hands with before you went in.. The Principle, Principle's Wife, Deputy Principle, Head Girl, Head Boy, Teacher who organised it all Joss Walker. Then there was Mandy taking pictures of everyone in their gorgeous gowns before they entered. As you entered there was champagne glasses with Orange and fruit squash as there is no alcohol served at the Ball! Tickets were $60 but we were allowed in free. We stood at the top of the stairs and watched them all come in, they all looked gorgeous. When there is a dance or fancy dress etc in Wanaka they go all out on the town on their outfits as they dont get to do it very often everyone lives in jeans and no makeup etc. They had spay tans, nails done, hair done, dresses made the works, they all spent a fortune! There was a photography room with a big mushroom dressed stool to sit on and some tree furniture! There was teachers standing by every door to stop the kids going and having sex in random rooms! Aparently some have been cought before! There was younger students helping out on the day go round with sandwhiches, nibbles, chicken sticks, cakes all dressed as a pack of cards. They had Alice in Wonderland playing on a massive screen behind the live band. They had awards for Best Dressed, Most improved etc and they had the Bell and Bow of the Ball which had to start off the dance which they had practiced. People got on the stage dancing and it was all just a really nice evening! I'm glad Abby was there, we had quite a few dances and then went home. Mike picked us up and dropped us off. I got home and fell in bed i was exhausted!
Sunday 29th June
Woke up and got up around 9ish, we wanted a lie in for a change! Well I did Mike gets a lie in every bloody day! We called James and it was his staff do the night before and we woke him up, he had missed his 9.30 snoboarding lesson! We quickly go ready and he came round. We made a packed lunch so we wouldnt spend anything up the mountain. I made Mike tuna and vinegar, a pear, packet of crisps and some sweets and myself a cheese and crisp sandwhich, 2 pieces of dark chocolate and a tangerine. We filtered a big bottle of water and took some milk, sugar and tea bags. Well prepared! We packed everything in the car and set off for the mountain again. I called the mountain in the morning for the weather conditons which was snow showers regular, visibility okay to clear later on etc. When we got there at about 10.45am we had to park quite a bit away as the carpark was fully, luckily a big trailer was going up which offered to give us a lift so we hitched on that. We hired a locker for $4 to put our lunch in and save us walking half way down the mountain to get it! I had my crazy Donny Darko hat hon and my more "roomy" pants and coat on! I felt good and we headed up the ski lift. We did a couple of runs and all was good. I was flying down the mountain carving and linking my turns I have finally got it! I love it. The funniest part of the day was when we went to sit on the chair lift as it came round, but I hadnt moved up enough and when Mike went to sit down he fell off and nearly got whacked in the head with all our snowboards. He just went flat on his face and laid flat until we went over him. He thought quickly which was good! He got on the next one and we saw him at the top. We went on a the other lift and down a few different ways which was good. We did a good 5 hours snowboarding altogether. We had lunch at the cabin thing and filled our teas up, and ate our packed lunch not spending any money. We saw the guys from Manchester who we met at the secret Rave. They said they were going to have a party soon and for us to go up whenever we liked as they live quite far out in Hawae, That will be good. We saw James friend who works at Edgewater and we saw the girl who works as the dishwasher at Oakridge. James saw his teacher who he missed the lesson for and felt quite guilty as he had given up his day off to teach him and he didnt show up! He accidently bumped straight into him as soon as we got there! Apologised and had the lesson there and then. The guy was about to go home! We headed down the mountain again... .with no ski chains and me shouting at Mike. James was laughing as he said he can see this daily whining occuring each time we go up and down the mountian, but i dont want to die! We got down in one piece thank God! Rushed home as we both had work at Oakridge at 5.00. Mike had to have a shave as he was told off for coming to work un-shaven! We didnt have time to have a shower and we had totally ran out of food, so Mike had some instant noodles and I let him have the last piece of bread and I had a bowl of Milo Cereal and a piece of dark chocloate. We got to work and told them we didnt want a break, as we just wanted to get the job done and not lose 1/2 hour work money. They always get you to have a break at the beginning of the shift when you dont need one? Very strange, if they offered it you in the middle then you might actually need one! We left at 11.00pm it was exhausting. Cram packed with people the busiest it had been and we are not fully trained up yet. Not to their standard anyway! I ordered one person the wrong meal, so when it was served it was not what she ordered! Then another table I didnt put one meal through so when it was served there was one meal short! eeekkk. I'm sure I didnt put all the drinks on peoples bills as I didnt have time! It was soo busy and we were understaffed. I forgot to take away some starter cuttlery and crockery and forgot to give them steak knives when they ordered steak! I feel like the worlds worst waitress! When we left we had done 6 hours each which works out to be just over $60 each which will just about cover our food shopping bill tomorrow! We drove home and he car was all iced up and it was freezing! Mike started driving even though he couldnt see anythign and it was pitch black. Luckily i persuaded him to stop until it de-iced as it was very dangerous! We got home, I had a bowl of cereal as I was starving, put the electric blanket on and went to bed I was shattered. But because I had the cereal and a brew I couldnt sleep! So I got to sleep around 1.00am what a long day!!...work tomorrow up at 7.00am!
