NZ Holiday WeekendFriday, Totally settled into our little cottage now, got our shelves stocked, logs stocked, fire burning, all our clothes un-packed and our bits hung all over the house. We hang our clothes on the drying frame above the log fire, we unplug and turn off every single plug and switch when we finish using some thing I just love it here living with Mike making dinners and playing scrabble! On Friday we left work and started drinking (well it is the Queens birthday and I have been at work all week!) Mike gets up in the morning bless and takes me to work even though I can take myself! He makes me cerial and a brew as I get ready. Okay back to Friday, Gus came round and had a few beers and then James came and picked us up as we live 30 mins walk away from town! I was extremely drunk before I even took the first step out of my house, secretly praying everyone would catch up with me. We went to shooters and even though I could barely see the balls won a couple of games. We played winner stays on and we played a couple who had just come to Wanaka for the season from North New Zealand, it was the girls 21st and her family bought me a double vodka and coke...just what I needed. Then there was only 10 minutes left of happy hour so I HAD TO go and get 2 x double vodka and cokes before the price went up...b***** by now I'm well and truly sloshed, lets just hope Britney doesnt come on as I'm surrounded by men only and i can see myself hurling myself onto the dancefloor on my own. Luckily for me it did not come on. We met Harry (Dave) Tom and Lee and James friend from Ireland Kev who Mike went to snowpark with the other day. He's trying to grow his hair into dreadlocks too. He came over looking weary as his two girl flatmates had lost their passport on the way to the pub and were frantically trying to find it in the dark using the headlights of their car, hit or miss weather he needed to go home or not, it was supposed to be the girls birthday. Luckily she found it, and came to the pub. We played some pool in shooters still then headed over to Red Rock. It wasnt very busy, but we were all sloshed, we'd had 2 rounds of Sambuca's in Shooters and as soon as we got to Red Rock we had a another round, this time on fire. The music was brilliant and we danced to drum and base until the club closed. We got a taxi with Gus and it cost us $16 very steep! I think the meter starts on $15 so no matter where you live it will be $16 as it only takes 2 minutes to drive ANYWHERE in Wanaka! I forgot to mention this very dangerous spiky pole thing that was sticking out of the side of the table we were sitting at, very strange to have this in your way of getting up and leaving the table when full of drunk people, I'm sure people have seriouslly hurt themselves on this!Saturday Day: We found Gus on our couch in the morning, cant remember that thought we had dropped him off! Oh well, I stuck my fingers down my throat a little came out nothing much, had a brew and some Nutri Bites and offered Gus a cuppa. We all felt kinda okay considering so I suggested doing the Rob Roy Glacier Track Walk which takes about 6 hours! Moderate to Hard level. We were all up for it, so Mike gave Gus a lift home whilst I made sandwhiches for the walk. I made French sticks with cheese, ham, crushed cheese puffs, a mars rocks each, 2 x cookies, a packet of crisps and 2 bottles of water! Mmm looking forward to it. We picked Gus up, picked James up, went to New World for James to buy his sarnies, went to the hammer and Nail bakery for Gus to buy his pie, then we set off! Took us about 1hour and half to get there, and what a road! All gravel and stones and loads of exclamation marks which marked a gorge where the car basically went into a big ditch of water which was quite high! We had to move a couple of cows out of the way and contemplated playing slap the bull and then we arrived. By then we needed the toilet and me and James had to go in the digusting long drop, thats the third long drop I've been on and its not nice! eughh!!! We first had to cross a field of sheep, sheep poo, cows and cow pat, some cows were actually quite scary, we chased a couple of sheep they are sooo funny when you chase them they all have fat bottoms (yes guys I know I have a big bottom) But sheeps bottoms are funny! Anyway moving on from bottoms we then had to go accross a swing bridge, which predictabley James and Gus starting jumping and doing a stampede when I has half way there and I was soooooo scared I had to walk dead close to the bottom all hunched up, god knows why this helped me get accross but i felt compelled to walk like that, it was like it eased my scaredness! Anyway I got accross alive and then we were walking up rocks, steps, rubble, logs etc for hours, getting a snippet of the glacier on our way. There was loads of water which was soo blue and very tempting to go swimming in but its just a bit too cold at the moment to do that. We all round a decent walking stick on the way to help us along and James took a zillion pictures we now call him trigger happy. There was a few stumbles but nothing serious. Then we heard a loud thundering noice and silence....4 /12 hours up the mountain! It was a bloody avelanche off the glacier, we just caught the last smigerine of it falling down as we turned a corner. Scary! There was lots of danger signs where the path had been ruined by falling rocks and rubble and as we got further up it was snowy and icy. We kept sliding back down the mountain and mike was pulling me with his stick on my hands and knees. I cant tell you how scared I was! We just had to try and stick to the muddy bits to stop sliding, all we kept thinking is how are we going to get down if we cant get up, we are going to be sliding on our bums! Finally we got to the top, it is ice weather and we all have t-shirts on we are so hot. At the top we ate our luch looking at the view to the glacier and fed the Keas (birds) which they tell you not to, but wheres the fun in that? They are considered as pests over here and they come right up to you, when they fly they have multicolours under there wings, Gus was throwing snowballs at them whilst we were trying to get a picture. It quickly got cold when we werent moving so after a while of playing with the Kheas we headed down, the bit I was dreading. Mike told me to "just go with it" meaning that I was going to slide down anyway so just slide and have fun with it. So I did.... holding his arm though couldnt do it on my own and it was hillarious as though we were skiing on our trainers down the mountain, I quickly got brought back to reality with some scary near falls! Mike bless was havin to hold himself and me up! It was a long walk back, good though, all talking about the year ahead. We finally got to the swing bridge and I told myself to just enjoy it this time, and I did, it was ace and I did a little stampede for Mike he he! We all wiped our feet and got in the car, it felt good to sit down. We conneceted James iPod to the stereo and played the most random songs for our journey back all good fun.Saturday Night: Apparently tonight was the night to go out.... so we did! Got home had shower and food and James picked us and Gus up. We went to the liquer store and bought a bottle of vodka, some beers, champers, redbull and jagermeister shots..... recipe for a good night out. We went back to James and played drinking games, 21 and the name game, in an hour and half all alcohol was gone so we headed for Red Rock as Jody told me that we should get there before 10.00. It was PACKED! James bought us some EVIL DRAMUE eugh!! That is one shot I CANNOT have, I hate it hate it hate it. I pretty much cant remember anything from there, I remember dancing on my own and going through all the kinds of laughs with Gus, the evil laugh MWAH HA HA HA HA, the cackle, the walrus etc then making a swift exit with Mike! Back door boogie just like at home I blame Mike he's roped me into his back door boogie tactics! Sunday: Well the next day,.....you can imagine. I was sooooooooo sick, got up at 11.00 and threw up every 15 - 20 minutes will 10.00 oclock at night, drank water threw up, was thirsty drank water, threw up, was thirsty drank water... you get my drift. I tried sucking on icecubes didnt work, tried paracetomal but Mike told me the parrots had eaten them all, tried milk, threw up milk, tried orange, threw up orange, tried nothing threw up the bile of my stomach, tried bread, threw up the bread it was the worst ever. Why do I do it? I blame James for buying the Dramue. So that was basically Sunday a whole day of throwing up and Mike not really knowing what to do, by the end my tonsils or whatever is back there were saw from my fingers proding them every 15 minutes! punjabi
