Saturday 11th: Didnt do much as we were hung over, had lunch at the local, handed out a few more C.V's, made Tea and went to bed early.
Sunday 12th: Went for a walk round Mellenium Walk, took 2 hours, all round the lake, saw loads of little secluded beaches which were gorgeous, this would be the perfect place in the summer, I was dying to get in the lake for a swim but I would freeze to death I think. Cant stop taking photographs of the panoramic views. Watched the crapist film Alexandra, went on for over 3 hours and I dont get it, is he gay? Or I dont know I just didnt get the film, were they having Gay tendencies or is it just and EXTREMELY cheesy film?
Monday 13th: Went for a run round our usual spot round the lake, I'm so unfit, I have to keep stopping and its only 8-10 mins there and the same back! I defo need to get more fit. We then went to the butchers bought a big steak to cook with lots of veg, borrowed the hoover from the lady next door and did a bit of cleaning. Then we went to play badminton at 7.00pm at the College Gym was $6 each which is about £2.00. We borrowed rackets from the teacher. We played the new rules which are so much easier, you get a point each time you win, instead of getting a point only if you serve, also if you win, you win the serve. Ooooh and buy the way we walked to the Gym so there was lots of fitness today wooooooo! I realised that I wasnt scared walking in the dark in N.Z. Whereas in the UK there is no way I would walk somewhere on my own at night.
Tuesday 14th: Woke up and went to the job agencey, nothing as usual. Called to chase our IRD numbers which havent been processed yet. Then we went to the Spa at Oakridge which was only $6 each. Did a few lengths and went in the outside pool and jaccuzzi. Then we got some lunch from the bakery and ate it outside looking at the lake and feeding the birds. They come right onto the table next to you. Went to enquire about the Gym but its a bit expensive $29.95 a week (£12). Bit extreme but we really want to go. Not decided what we will do yet. Went to the internet cafe and checked our emails. Got an email from Oakridge hotel which we put our C.Vs there the other day. I'm just writing this and then we are going to go and see Matt and see if we have a job! I'm already working at Tango's cafe in June so I can only do evening work. Although Red Rock have also called me to come in, so I'll go there soon.
Wednesday 15th May: Had our usual bowl of cheerios which I extremely look forward to every time I wake up and scream "Cheerios" as soon as I even open my eyes much to the amusement of Mike! We got ready and headed for the extremely RUBBISH Job agencey, They are absolute pants, They dont ring you if there is a job that comes up that you are suited to, They advertise jobs in the Messenger and on the board outside their shop, but when you go in they say there is nothing available. I ask if there is ANYTHING and they no "not much" I'm like well not much must mean there is something? And they just windle their way round it to get you out the door as soon as possible! They are the most rubbish job agencey I have ever heard of! Anyway I forgot to tell you that Mike bought a Kona Mountain Bike for $140 we saw the advert in the Messenger the other week, so we looked for a mountain bike for me but no luck as of yet. The lady next door says she has one I could borrow so we will see what it is like soon! Mike saw an advert for a Tandem Paragliding assistant so we emailed and rang them up, looks promising, They asked for a First Aider, full driving license, Treble Cone mountain pass, which Mike has and he has canopy experience from his Sky Diving. I think he really wants this job. I was nearly offered a Job at Red Rock which is the place I wanted to work when I was researching in the UK, it is the THE place to be I think here in the season with lots of Drum and Base and Hip Hop DJ's on, log fire, dance floor , pool tables etc. But they asked if I could do 5 nights a week and I already had the job at Tangos in the day so I had to decline! b*****, I really didnt want to let Val down as a girl that works there said people are always working there and then looking for night jobs and letting her down and it gets her really upset, so I stuck with my morals and declined! Plus I thought I will be getting in at 3.00am and I want to be up early for the slopes. I have this rash on my face which which wont go away, I think I'm allergic to the sheet and pillow covers, Its just on one side and is really really itchy, we are leaving here in 2 weeks so I will have to put up with it till then, meanwhile i'm just caking myself in savlon! Ok so back to Wednesday, we had lunch at The Pizzaria, we keep having lunch out every day which we shouldnt really! It was good value actually lasagne being only $8, I had Calzone beef pizza and Mike had Fish and Chips and a drink which cost us $23 about £9. Eating out in Wanaka is very expensive. We went to the Internet Cafe and bought a card which is $5 for an hour and a half. Looked in a few shops and went to play Archery at "Have a Shot" which is where Mike did his Clay pigeon Shooting. It was $12 each for only half an hour which flew by, but my fingers were hurting at the end. It was good, Mike said whoever strikes bullseye wins the whole again and he did. Then we went to Shooters, they give free pool from 12.00 till 3.00 and we arrived at 3.30 typical, I dont think we are very good at this saving, back packers lark. I was trying to practice playing pool holding the cue correctly for the pool competition that night, but I couldnt get into it so sod it I will just play my way. The Kiwi rules are CRAZY! You never get two shots? Even if you pot the white, foul etc, you can hit the black into your ball to pot your colour?, If you foul when you are on the black e.g if you miss it, pot the white etc then you just lose? If you pot two different balls on your break then the opposition gets to choose and it is his go? You can shoot down the table and only in the semi circle, its just weired! Anyway we played some cards, Mike dropped in his C.V in Capricio's restaurant and we went back to our cosy cottage. We had an hour to have a shower, dry hair , put make up on, get changed, make tea, wash up and walk the 10 - 15 minute walk back to shooters for the pool comp and we did it! Well Mike didnt have a shower but I did, we had bacon, egg and mushrooms and it was DELICOUS! Mmm! So we registered for the pool comp bought a pitcher of Canterberry Ale which is okay tasting better than Spates, costs $8 a pitcher. I played and won a couple of games, much to the mens amazement, then I was against the best player there and I lost miserabley! I broke and potted two and because of the silly Kiwi rules he could choose and just cleared up, so I didnt really get a go! Mike had to play him first and lost, and our friend Gus played him and lost. I got through to the semi finals though so mabe next Wednesday. After the pool comp it is Karioki, I didnt get up, but other people did which was quite funny, We had a couple of Sambukers as the Ale was not getting us drunk. We started talking about the hotel in Christchurch that we stayed in and All four of us stayed in the same hotel when we flew into Christchurch! How weired, and James must have been in the room we were in as he was telling us about the Karioki that kept him up till 6 in the morning! It is the best value hotel in Christchurch for backpackers who want a bit of luxury to start their trip! The So Hotel, we loved it! Anyway we left at about 11.30 early I know but we were drinking from 6.00 and Mike wanted to go, good shout actually. The walk back was freezing I only had a fleece and should have brought my coat. My ears really hurt when they are cold so I think I might invest in some ear muffs. We made some food when we got in as I HAVE TO EAT when i'm pi**ed! And drifted into a nice drunken sleep!
Thursday 16th May: Woke up had our Cheerios and a brew mmmmm! The routine is Mike makes them and I wash up. Although Mike had the sore deal this morning as we had ran out of Milk so he got on his bike that he has been dying to ride more and cant cuz I havent got one! He went to the shop bless first thing and got some Milk. They play alot of Texas Hold Em here so Gus (short for Angus we found out last night!) said he would teach us so we can join in all the competitions! oooooh I love competitions! So we are going to his hostel today in the communal living room bit and he is going to teach us. James is working till Saturday as day porter at Edgwater but he already knows how to play. There is a comp at the bullock bar tonight so who knows, we might go. Spent a bit last night though. I spent $40 and Mike cant remember how much he spent so we may not go. We keep spending alot and are not working so need to limit ourselves. Okay i'm going now about to make us eggs, bacon and mushrooms again then we are going to Gus's at 5.00 Laters! x x
