This week has been AMAZING!
I drove with Kimberly, David, Davids cousin and the cousins girlfriend to a place in Pangani called Capricorn.
It's a small resort with 3 cottages on the beach and since we had all 3 cottages we had the place to ourselves.
Every day we ordered fish from the fishermen for the next day and if we were lucky they were able to catch the things we ordered. Our menu was fabulous:
Monday: White fish( cant remember the name) and squid
Tuesday: Lobster!
Wednesday: crab for lunch and raw tuna for dinner.
Thursday: crab cakes!
I love love love going on vacation with a professional chef.
We went snorkeling, tanned and read book after book. It was a great vacation, I didn't want to leave.
The ride back took about 6 hours and as always we were stopped by the Tanzanian police but this time it was actually the Tanzanian revenue authority. They said our road permit had expiered and we had to go with this guy to the office and pay for a new one. So after trying to get them to allow us to pay for about 20 minutes, we finally gave up and followed a guy to the TRA office.
David went out to pay and came back and told us we had to follow the guy again because David wanted a receipt and they couldn't do that at the TRA, we had to go to another office.
The other office was behind a fence and it was a table and 2 chairs on an empty plot where it looked like they were building a house but it was in the initial stage so it was basically a flat piece of land.
So there were 2 people sitting at the table under a tree with some paper and pens.
When David asked if this was the office and why the receipt they had given him didn't have the official TRA stamp on it, the guy ran and closed the gate, trapping us inside.
David was furious, jumped in the car and told the guy to open the gate or he would drive through it.
We were all sitting in the car not understanding what was going on and it was actually getting a bit scary when finally this lady came and explained to David that they were hired by the TRA to stand on the street and "catch" people who hadn't paid their car taxes. Extremely dodgy but after this, the lady told the man to open the gate and let us go so we drove away as fast as we could. SCARY!
Oh Africa. What else can I say.
So now I am back to work and on Friday my parents are coming!!!! So exciting.
Anyway, I better go and make some lunch.
I hope this didn't scare anyone, Im completely fine. Nothing bad happened, just a scary situation when you are there.
