My first day in Tanzania.
So I finally met Jade in Amsterdam and we planned on talking and getting to know each other on the plane but I fell asleep within 2 seconds ( shocking) and we took turns sleeping/watching movie so that plan was a complete fail. We have 5 months to get to know each other though so I am not worried one bit.
So after waiting for Kimberly to pick us up, we finally arrived at Rivertrees and WOW. It is the most peaceful place I have ever been to.
WOW.
Karibu!(this means welcome in Swahili).
After receiving a welcoming speech by the duty manager, we went to change and have a quick shower and then we were invited to a mexican night at Kimberly and Davids house. After some fajitas, wine and tequila shots I was about to fall asleep at the dining table so we went back to our rooms. OH! I have a panic button in my room…..for monkies! Knowing myself, the monkey would probably need the panic button more than me after I will have tried to cuddle and kiss it and dress it in pink dresses.
After sleeping one night in the hotel, we could move into our house which we share with another couple. We have our own living room, bathroom and bedroom and we share the kitchen with the other couple. They haven't arrived yet so for now we are alone in the house. The house is located on the premises, literally 30 seconds away from our offices and the rest of the lodge.
Today has been an insane day, we have walked through the premises, been introduced to all staff members (including our own housekeeper), had an amazing salad made from vegetables from the garden, had a guided tour by David in the neighboring villages, ate fresh coffee beans (they are sweet like berries on the outside!) and now we are chilling in our house until David and Kimberly picks us up to go out for a local dinner. I am excited to see how my stomach will handle it (detailed explanation will follow haha).
2nd day.
Im alive!
Kimblery and David took Jade and myself out to a local restaurant where you picked the meat you wanted before you sat down. I had my first Kilimanjaro beer, it was delicious.
After receiving our beer, a waiter came with hot water and soap so we could clean out hands. After that, he brought in the first plate of food which was grilled chicken with banana (this banana taste like potatoes SO WEIRD), salt and some sauce.
Then he brought in the goat. Ive never had goat before but it was delicious. I was a bit skeptical after Kimberly told us she think she ate an eye once. The meet it just lying in a mess on the plate so you don't really know what you are eating. David told us to try it and if its not good then spit it out and go for a new piece. The bones and the pieces that you couldn't swallow you just left on the table in a pile.
When we were done, the waiter came back and let us clean our hands again. Im so happy I took my rings off because my hands were disgusting after fiddling with chicken and goat.
This morning we didn't have hot water so I showered in the cold. My hair is super dirty but oh well. Maybe I should buy a wig and use that for when the water isn't working.
Today I am going with David to the fairgrounds where there will be a fair on Friday. Rivertrees will have a stand so we are starting to build that tomorrow. Apparently we have to start from scratch-by mowing the lawn! Oh and we don't have a lawn mower…we use the sword. What did you do today? I mowed the lawn with a sword.
Got to go!
