Ali and I were supposed to meet in the breakfast room around nine this morning, but we both got a late start. We left the hotel at 10:30 and went to one of the shops nearby that had liquors, candies and other goodies, to do some final souveniring. She had missed breakfast, so we stopped in the pastry shop at the corner to get something to eat and then went back to the hotel to drop off our bags.
Joe and Alexa decided to join us and we went to Cavour, a street lined with little souvenir shops. We walked around for about an hour or so and then the rain started. As it started to pour harder, we decided to forgo making it back to the hotel for lunch and ducked into a cafe for to get something to eat.
When we finished our panini the rain seemed to have let up a bit, so we made a run for the train. We were back to the hotel at almost 2:30 and thought we would have to rush to get ready to leave for Tivoli at three, but the departure time was pushed back to four, so we had plenty of time.
When we arrived in Tivoli, it was still pretty rainy and, unfortunately, we were not able to see the gardens. They are supposed to be magnificent and visiting them has been on my bucket list for a long time, so I was a bit disappointed, but hopefully I will make it back in the fall.
Our farewell dinner was not far from Ville d'Este, where the gardens are located. We ate and then there was singing and dancing before our professors gave their farewell speeches. It was hard knowing that we would have to say goodbye the next day and go our separate ways.
When we arrived back at the hotel, I really wanted to go out one last time, but everyone else was tired and we all had flights in the morning. Instead, we went for a final gelato and I decided to splurge and get four flavors - nutella, baileys, banana and pistachio. I officially ate gelato every day I was in Italy.
Back at the hotel, a few of us were hanging out in Ali's room and checked in for my flight. I thought my departure was at 12:45 and planned to take the bus with the Stony Brook students at 9:15, but the time on my ticket when I checked in was 10:25. I immediately went downstairs to check on bus times and found that I could go with Westchester at 6:15. I woke up Matt and AJ and said goodbye to everyone and then ran upstairs to pack my suitcase. At some point, I lost my wallet and woke up Jess about three times before Ali called to say that she found it in her room. When I finally got to bed, I only got about an hour to an hour and a half of sleep.
