Ali and I went to mass at the Vatican again this morning. We were closer to the front this time, so we could see and hear much better and we had programs to look at. The choir was right across from us and the way the voices echoed in the large dome of St. Peter's gave me goose bumps. After the service, we walked through a building dedicated to Pope John Paul II (it is there because he is going to be sainted) and I learned a lot about his life.
Ali and I found a little restaurant not far from the Vatican where we sat outside and had lunch. It was so peaceful and typically Italian and we didn't want to leave. After lunch, we had to stop to get gelato. The flavors of the day were Amarena (cherry), some kind of liquor, and chocolate. It was a fantastic combination.
We both had a lot of studying to do, so we spent the afternoon over our books in the courtyard of our hotel, along with the rest of our group. Around eight o'clock, Sam and I went to dinner at Joseph's, a restaurant near our hotel, before returning to the courtyard for another round of studying.
