Rich was the only one in the family to attempt a tree climb, though the kids were really keen. The rungs were a long way apart and there is absolutely no safety net should you fall and slip through - Cath was worried about their safety, Rich was too, and the kids thought we were very boring parents. Mind you it is one of the only things that we have not allowed them to do. He said that the most difficult was the beginning until you got used to focussing on the narrow band of steel and got into a rhythm. The view from the top was good and we can all enjoy the photos, in the album section of the website.
We camped in the Shannon NP surrounded by 60-80metre tall Karri trees - it was beautiful and peaceful (except for the birds at 5am, but they are rather nice). This was a NP that even allowed campfires and so we enjoyed that as the nights are rather cold. We even had a hot chocolate on the campfire in the morning to warm up.
