Eaton Family's Aussie Adventure
This is a photo of the main part of Ivanhoe Crossing - the top of the bollards are at 450mm and we had great fun crossing it both ways - Rich drove one way and Cath the other - the kids loved it. We then went on to some 4WD tracks to Middle Springs and Black Rock Falls - just surrounding Kununurra. We are stopped here for 2 days and getting the car serviced before doing the rest of the Kimberleys. It is a very pleasant service town - again a place with so much water it doesn't know what to do with it. We went on Lake Argyle formed by the damming of the Ord River which holds 24 times the capacity of Sydney Harbour and just one week's excess down the spillway in the wet season would provide Sydney's water for 12 months!! We need a politician with foresight to consider piping despite the current pumping costs. Lake Argyle has 25,000 fresh water crocs, and lots of black eared rock wallabies - see photos.
