Eaton Family's Aussie Adventure
We had heard such mixed reports about El Questro - mostly from people saying they believed it expensive. From a family perspective - absolutely not so. This makes it to my top 3 of favourite places in Australia so far. It was simply brilliant. You see they charge $15 per adult per night for camping and $15 per adult for a 7 day pass to all their properties. We stayed 5 nights and at $30 per night plus a bit for the pass over those nights it was way cheaper than most caravan parks. For example the caravan park in Kununurra was $48 per night as they all charge for kids and El Questro doesn't. There is so much to do here too - we did all the walks - all fabulous but the best by far was El Questro Gorge - just fabulous scenery, but you have to work very hard - it is by far the most challenging walk we have done (especially for Claire and her little legs) but it was great. Half way along a huge boulder blocks the gorge and you have to swim/climb to continue. This postcard shows Matthew about to jump in on the return at this point. There is another of Rich carrying the gear (one of many trips) across the water. You definitely needed boots and we didn't fancy swimming in them. Zebedee Springs was great (thanks Rosie for the tip!) and we had a most superb dinner at the restaurant here - 5 star food for adults which would rival any good restaurant in Sydney and a realistic kids menu - so we were all happy. We had a private campsite along the river with its own toilet and had a great time doing all the 4WD tracks - Stephen just loves those. All in all El Questro was wonderful - I thoroughly recommend it as it shows the best of the Kimberley all in one spot (believe me, we saw almost everything in the Kimberley to compare it too)

Jan This is the cheapest way to do El Questro and would be the only way to do it with a family. You can request a private campsite on the river but should be pre-booked. We stayed at Emma Gorge and did not have our own transport. Definitely don't do that. If you do you are up for ridiculous transport fees to and from Emma Gorge. Also if you are booking early in the season, DO NOT go there without ringing and confirming everything is open. We went there at the start of the dry and were limited to one walk and a 4WD trip. The food at The Station was excellent however Emma Gorge food was substandard and very expensive. For example a Beef and Reef cooked to perfection on a Bar-be-que at the Station was $38 (5 star) and a similar menu at Emma Gorge was $50 (1 star). I would advise anyone staying independently at El Questro it is far better value staying in a new cabin at the Station than in a tent cabin at Emma Gorge. It may cost about $50 extra but much much better.
