After a failed attempt to camp at Bowling Green Bay National Park on Thursday (the campground was full!), we pushed on up to Townsville and pulled up at a nice, but rather crowded, caravan park at Rowes Bay.
Friday saw us sightseeing around town, it was a beautiful sunny day so got some great views from Castle Hill, over the city and out to Magnetic Island. Went out to dinner, and then Lea discovered the wonders of Cold Rock icecream (something that Lee had been hiding from her until now), where they mash all sorts of yummy things into your icecream, on a frozen marble slab.
On Saturday we caught the ferry out to Magnetic Island and hired a topless Suzuki Sierra for the day (Trey, it was rather reminiscent of our taxi in Fiji, I spent all day hanging onto the door for fear that it would fly open!). Had a great day cruising around, and watching the rain back on the mainland.
Back to Townsville to watch the Wallabies beat Wales, and then another Cold Rock to celebrate...
Packed up on Sunday, after finally meeting a couple our age who were travelling around Oz too (hi Mick and Lauren!) and then hit the road again, heading off into some ominous looking weather. They don't call us the Drought Breakers for nothing!
