After finally extricating ourselves from Seisia, we spent Monday night at a bush camp along the Old Telegraph Track, and actually had it to ourselves! Bit of a change from the hustle and bustle of the caravan park at Seisia. It rained on us pretty much all night, so Lee had to get creative when it came to saving the campfire from being extinguished (see picture - that arch over the fire was actually a wheel arch from a truck that had been dumped in the bush).
Next morning we went and had a swim at the gorgeous Fruit Bat Falls, could have stayed there all day if the sun had been out, but it was starting to get a little chilly, so we hit the road again.
Drove to a place called Captain Billy Landing, on the east coast. The sun came out again, and it was a beautiful spot to camp, right on the beach (shame there was no swimming due to our friends the crocs). Had the campsite to ourselves for a whole half hour, until a mob of people turned up - it turned out to be the 4WD club we'd met up at the Tip!
Had a lovely afternoon strolling along the beach. Lea was going to brave it and go for a swim in a shallow pool that had been trapped by a sand bar, but then Lee got her paranoid about stepping on a stonefish. As if she needed another thing to obsess about.
Cooked dinner over a campfire and Lee demonstrated his prowess with his new invention, the "fire chopsticks" - Adam and Kerrie, we don't need your fire tongs anymore to stoke the fire with...
Woke up early this morning to a bit of commotion outside our camper, the neighbours had spotted a big black animal in our camp in the early hours of the morning. Lee, being Lee, tracked the prints out along the beach and over the sand dunes. Armed only with a camera, he came across a rise to find a big boar happily munching away on some grass roots breakfast. As Lee was getting closer to take some more photos, the 4WD mob came charging up over the rise and startled the pig, who luckily ran off into the bushes. Lee was secretly relieved, as he knew a camera was no match for a cranky boar, plus his sand running skills have somewhat diminished since being on holidays.
After the morning's excitement, we all packed up our respective camps, Lee & Lea dragging the chain as usual. When we finally drove off, we came across a rather large tiger snake on the road out of camp. Lee, still running on adrenalin from the pig incident, grabbed the camera and hopped out of the car, determined not to miss another wildlife photo opportunity. Lea was not impressed. Still, he got some good shots, and we left the snake in peace to have a bit more of a sunbake, as we hit the road south again.[
