After leaving Townsville, we drove up through Ingham and Halifax, and set up camp at Lucinda. There is an amazing 5.7km jetty there, used for loading sugar. Did a bit of a walk, had a drink at the local pub, and then went for a fish - Lee almost landed a giant mudcrab on a beach rod! Lucky it let go as we had no rope to tie it up with...
The next morning we packed up in a tearing hurry, due to a storm approaching! The rain is still following us.
Drove up towards Cardwell - stopped off at a lookout for Hinchinbrook Island, but as the photo shows, we couldn't see much! Had a look through the very flash Port Hinchinbrook instead.
Next stop Tully, the wettest place in Australia. The Golden Gumboot at Tully stands 7.9 metres high, to mark Tully's highest ever annual rainfall. Surprise surprise, it was raining there, so hit the road again after having a little look around.
Drove on to Mission Beach, where we decided to cheat and get a cabin for the night, as we were feeling a little waterlogged. Went to a tropical fruit winery, which was rather bizzare, but quite nice wines there. Lee even liked them, and so did Lea, despite the fact they were made of banana...
Saw the Big Cassowary, unfortunately we didn't see any real ones during our stay, even though there were signs everywhere telling us to slow down lest we ran one over. Left Mission Beach in the rain, just as we found it.
