Our caravan of vans left the Isle of Harris at 5:30 a.m. this morning to drive to Tarbert so we could get on the ferry back to Uig again. Happy to report that not only were we on time for the ferry this time, but we were the first people there. I slept the entire 1 hour and 40 minute ferry ride to hop back into the van to start driving the 6-8 hour drive to Arbroath. On the way we stopped at Eilean Donnan Castle, Loch Ness, and Bruar shopping center. Eilean was beautiful, but we did not get a chance to go inside. Loch Ness was also beautiful, but the experience was slightly tainted by the downpour of rain. Bruar was more of a bathroom break, but the shops had interesting foods and goodies. We started on our last leg of our rain filled journey, and when I thought I would never see the end of the gigantic string of round abouts we finally turned into the driveway of Hospitalfield. What is there to say about Hospitalfield...well, it is a castle. The reference was used over and over that our vans must have driven through a magic wardrobe and landed us in Narnia. It is a labyrinth of hallways, and rooms that make you feel like Elizabeth Bennett's next door neighbor. Allison, Roni, Courtney, and I were placed in rooms in the cottage because the rooms in the main house were full by the time Al's slow buns could get us there:) The cottage will probably be better because we have more bathrooms for less people, and it will be quiet. We had a delicious dinner of cold cuts, salads, and fresh strawberries. Grace, Allison, Ashley and I went exploring, which meant climbing through windows to get to balconys that led to doors that opened up into spiral stone staircases to tiny attic rooms. As we explored the grounds we wandered into gardens and decrepit buildings. We got in out of the rain to get dried off for the pub, and then made our way into town. I had alight lager that I can't recall the name of and a Abbot Ale which were both delicious. Now for our first night at Hospitslfield!
